I wish to say no more then I was the man spoken about in Phillip Nelson's book about LBJ. I was the man who was about thirty foot from the torpedo when it exploded and lived to tell about it. The Lay Chaplain for the Liberty Veterans Association which I lobbied for before the office was even made official. I have always said that the Libety was saved by "Devine Intervention". I will always say that as just seconds before the torpedo exploded on the starboard side of the Libety a voice came to me telling me to get down and get down now. I was two decks down below the main deck and hoping the torpedo would not hit in my area, but it did. I didn't move fast enough when the voice spoke to me, and I was gently pushed flat to the deck just before the torpedo entered and exploded. My men were killed all around me, and yet I remained practically unscathed. This is only one miracle I observed that day, and there are more. I remain a Christian man to this day because of what I saw, and have always spoken about. I gave God the credit for my life on the steps of the dedication of the USS Liberty Memorial Library when it was dedicated in Grafton, Wisconsin. We did that dedication with a SWAT team on the roof of the library, and one down
the street. I believe the Liberty survivors are still here to tell this country to turn back to God before it is too late. I end this with, "If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and heal their land". What more needs to be said.
