Dr. Carolyn Purcell was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and grew up on a farm in northeastern Kentucky. After high school, she moved to Lexington to attend the University of Kentucky where she graduated magna cum laude in 1969 and received her MD degree from the College of Medicine in 1973. After residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology, she remained in Lexington for private practice from 1977 to 1998. During that time she delivered approximately twenty-five hundred babies, performed hundreds of gynecologic surgical procedures, had a busy office practice, traveled widely, and obtained twenty hours at Asbury Theological Seminary. She grew up in the Methodist church and is now a member of Liberty Road Faith Fellowship, a non-denominational church which she loves. She is active in the choir and passionate about missions and worship.

Dr. Purcell’s retirement has been busy. She served as chairman of the advisory board of The Salvation Army for four years and chairman of her neighborhood association board for two years. She ran for state representative and lost. She worked in disaster relief with The Salvation Army at ground zero after 9/11. After taking a writing apprenticeship with the Christian Writers Guild, she wrote several newsletters and her first novel, Saving Jane Doe, which was published by Morgan James Publishing and released in bookstores on May 17, 2016. She was host mother for a teenage girl from Germany for a year, caregiver in her home for her elderly mother for a year and a half, and breeder of Norfolk terrier puppies, twice. She recently started an author's website and blog at carolynpurcellmd.com.
