Gerald L.--Jerry--Wright grew up on a dairy farm in Michigan. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the US Army from Michigan State University. He completed US Army helicopter flight school in May of 1966 and then served in Vietnam as a helicopter gunship pilot. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, twice, a Purple Heart, a Bronze Star and 36 Air Medals. Upon leaving military service he worked for seven years building a two hundred acre farm into a tourist, resort, campground and recreation business. He sold it and purchased an insurance and real estate agency that he operated four years. He attended the Army's mid-career Officer Training Course at Fort Knox, KY and returned to the army as a comptroller. After several assignments of increasing responsibility and rank he was selected for and attended the US Army War College as a corresponding student and graduated in 1989. He retired as a Colonel (USAR). He then returned to the farm and woods where he grew up. He ran a saw mill there for several years. He has three children, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He lives on a lake with his wife and writes articles and short stories. He is a member of Veterans for Peace, the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) and the Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH).

Planting our way out of this recession Farmers make decisions every spring about planting. We would do well to look at the problem in the same was as farmers look at planting. A common sense solution to the recession problem is to plant our way out of it.
