We claim democracy is our proudest national heritage yet we've let the systems that make democracy work or fail break down. We need to unite the electoral reform movement across the spectrum of issue groups and promote a national discussion on The State of Our Democracy given the same import as the national discussion of healthcare. If we don't fix, and upgrade, our democracy we won't be able to fix anything else and achieve the socially just society we long for. Although campaign finance reform is certainly a priority, it is only one of a dozen issues we must be concerned with. Only if we unify will we have the strength to gain a system that is an example to the world. I am particularly interested in the efforts of Senator Mike Gravel calling for a constitutional amendment guaranteeing the right of every citizen to the ballot initiative in every jurisdiction from federal to local. We as citizens should be voting directly on the big issues on the big issues of our governance. Clearly, our representatives are no longer representative. I urge all readers to check out www.ni4d.us
