Once an accountant in Singapore, May Wang came to the United States in the eighties to pursue her dream of finding work that would involve helping communities become healthier. She is now a professor of public health and does research on nutrition and child obesity. She is especially interested in learning how families and neighborhoods influence child development and health within different cultural contexts, and in helping immigrant families navigate the cultural challenges of raising healthy children in America. She enjoys working with her socio-culturally diverse group of students, and strives to reach the exemplary standards of mentoring set by her own mentors. She and her husband are the proud parents of three creative and lovely children - Valerie, who is an event planner for a public TV station; Daryl, who is studying music composition; and Meagan, a high school student, who is exploring her interests in writing, food and the social sciences.
