I grew up in a time when my attempts to take mechanical drawing classes were rebuffed because they were "boys only". I was told to take home-ec. Although I was always on the honor roll, my guidance counselor never bothered with me except for the obligatory meeting in my senior year. Most girls were expected to get married, and girls' sports were nonexistent unless you were a cheerleader (yes, that is very physical sports). I did get to go to college later, but the demands of being a single mom, and working made it hard to get that degree.
I am an artist, musician, actor, storyteller, serial letter-to-the-editor writer and proud to be a liberal.
