I am a Canadian who now owns and operates a language school in the south of Russia. My previous career was as a stock broker in New york and Toronto so I guess it follows that I am keenly interested in Russian economics. I came to Russia in mid-1998 and had a chance to experience the ruble collapse and how the Russian people dealt with the fallout that followed. From that low point, the social and economic advance has been remarkable and I'm fortunate to have been a witness to and a part of what's happening in Russia.
Another part of this experience is having the opportunity to read what the western press says about Russia and contrast that with what I see is actually going on here. The two just don't match up. I've come to understand that the cold war has never really ended. Life here is pretty good and getting better all the time.
