John Englander is a noted speaker, writer, and entrepreneur with vast ocean and climate expertise. His powerful presentations about climate change and ocean impacts draw on his extensive marine knowledge and numerous adventures, ranging from dives under the polar ice cap, to surveying the front lines of melting glaciers in Greenland, and to exploring ancient shorelines in the Caribbean from deep-diving submarines.

His stories entertain and enlighten, making the latest scientific research easy to grasp and memorable for any audience.
Available Programs:
1. Rising Seas: The Facts And Impacts We Are Not Being Told. Sea level is on the rise and accelerating. It is imperative that we clearly understand where it is heading by mid century and beyond. From his forthcoming book, "High Tide on Main Street ", John explains how sea level repeatedly moved up and down as much as 400 feet (120 m) and the lessons the past holds for us today. He believes the economic impacts will be many times greater and start much sooner than is being explained. This is a looming catastrophe that Englander believe warrants a new approach, which he terms "intelligent adaptation. "
2. Putting Yosemite in the Middle of the Ocean. Why we must protect at least 10% of the sea, up from the present 1.6%. The magnificent American park Yosemite is a metaphor, to help us realize what we have accomplished on land, and what we now need to do in the sea.
3. Global Warming 's Devastating Effects on Corals, Fisheries, and Sea Level. Warming seas, melting ice sheets, and increasing ocean acidity will change our ocean planet profoundly. Warming is now happening 20,000 times faster than it did millions of years ago. We need to understand that warmer and more acid seas may impact not only coral reefs, and shellfish, but the entire web of the marine food chain, on which we are greatly dependent.

Englander has been CEO of such notable organizations as The International SeaKeepers Society, and The Cousteau Society. As part of his lectures, John enjoys sharing some of the great and poignant insights from numerous private conversations with Jacques-Yves Cousteau.

John 's ocean experience began early. After graduating college he moved to the Bahamas, where he developed the largest resort scuba facility in the world. There he introduced tens of thousands to ocean adventures, from basic scuba diving, to shark-feeding dives, and diving with dolphins in the open ocean. His professional career in the diving industry spanned three decades; some 5,000 dives; master scuba instructor ratings; and numerous industry awards and positions of leadership.

Englander is a Fellow of the London-based, Institute of Marine, Engineering, Science, and Technology (IMarEST) and has been appointed a special advisor on climate to the Global Environment & Technology Foundation, and to the Friends of the United Nations. He is a member of the prestigious Explorers Club, The American Geophysical Union (AGU), Union of Concerned Scientists, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).
