Dr. rer. nat. Helmut Richard Goetting is an analyst of satellite images by training with a diploma from Tuebingen University and a doctor degree (for his research in Kenya, East-Africa) from Freiburg University, Germany. With two published science books as his entrance ticket, he got an invitation as a visiting scholar from Stanford University, California, which was the beginning of a typical emigrant‘s career from scientist to window washer. Been there. Done that.
After two years research at Stanford’s Remote Sensing Laboratory (School of Earth Sciences) he rented a warehouse in pre-Google Mountain View. Escaping the crippling paralysis of university burnout and in a sort of creative failure, he hand-built a seventeenth century design wood-burning brick oven and baked crusty bread for eight years. In the following decade he didn’t fall from an upper-story window while cleaning windows in Silicon Valley.
