Jack Douglas received his PhD from Princeton in 1969. He is a professor in the Dept of Sociology, UC San Diego. His areas of specialiation: Deviance, Theory, Social Economics, History of Social Thought, Field Methods. His books include Existential Sociology, The Myth of the Welfare State, and The Sociologies of Everyday Life.

The Day the New America Began For decades, the American Presidency has been accruing new powers at an accelerating pace. The government at the top--the executive, their handlers in the CIA and the Shadow Government--have built all the crucial foundations of an American Totalitarian Police State, but left the old institutions in place as iconic fronts. When Obama first seizes full dictatorial power, it will be for a benign purpose, one we can all support.
