Dr. Judith Steinberg Is In!
Patricia Ernest (Pissed Off Patricia)
I find it incredible that the talk of the day is about Dr. Steinberg. The so-called problem seems to be that she's a professional and is dedicated to her practice as a physician. She is not on the road or in the spot light with her husband as he campaigns for President. "Yeah, that's really the mark of a good wife" they are sarcastically scoffing. Please, give me a break! If she had put her patients on hold until after the election, she would have been criticized for abandoning the people who depended on her. So she is in a no win situation with those who would scorn her.
This marriage and relationship between Dr. Steinberg and Dr. Howard Dean sounds wonderful to me. They appear to be two professional people who love one another and respect, accept and honor one another's professions. Sounds to me like a relationship that has evolved into something very, very admirable. What in the world is wrong with that?
The criticism is that Dr. Steinberg has not accompanied Dr. Dean on the campaign trail. Most of us do not accompany our spouses in their daily professional lives. That would be at the least difficult and at the most ridiculous. Dr. Steinberg is dedicated to her profession. She and Howard seem to have discovered something that many couples have not. They have developed a way for both the husband and wife to lead productive professional lives, independent of the other's profession. Why would or could that ever be deemed a problematic life style?
They must have so much trust and faith in one another, and so much admiration for one another. She with her practice and he with his campaign. You know they must miss each other so much, now with his campaign demanding just about every minute of his time. Their relationship is so strong, even now with his absence, that their love, determination and will keeps them together. That doesn't sound like a relationship that should be criticized in today's world. Perhaps emulated, but certainly not criticized.
Bush wants to spend one and a half billion dollars telling people to get married and stay married and hug the bible. Meanwhile we have Dr. Dean and Dr. Steinberg freely showing America that marriage can work out just fine thank you, if the couple involved are intelligent, sincerely loving, independent and confident people.
While Laura Bush is reading kiddy stories to kids, Dr. Steinberg is healing kids and saving their lives. My vote goes to Dr. Steinberg, the real woman of today.
