For those of you that have read my articles, diaries, and comments you know well that I was an Obama supporter 100% and continue to be; but with the astounding admission of Cheney and his admission that he not only knew but approved of the torture in Iraq, I will demand that President-Elect Obama ask that the incoming Attorney General begin an immediate investigation. To do less, for me, invalidates President-Elect Obama’s integrity and in no way can we ask the rest of the world to recognize us as a nation of laws. It violates not only the Geneva Convention, but also the Uniform Code of Military Justice. More importantly it violates everything that this nation has stood for. After WW II, we executed Japanese citizens for similar actions and have condemned many other countries for their torture activities. The new president speaks of change and to NOT see the admission of Cheney followed up by the Justice Department, makes me admit my support was not only mistaken but that also I am ashamed of my country and citizenship.
I was busy when this story broke and have not had a lot of time to pay attention today but it would seem this story has not gotten the attention it deserves. I emailed my local paper and the Editorial editor who I exchange mail with often, asking why there was no reference to this news, said I would need to ask the news department-----simply passing the buck. I am not a bit surprised by what many of us have expected and known but I am surprised at how cavalier Cheney admitted it. It is almost as if is arrogance is so complete, he really does not care. I will now wait and see what the President-Elect does about this matter but if it is ignored, I will be the first to admit my support was misguided and that I was wrong. I will also post this same response in my diary, as I consider it to be too important not to get as much exposure as possible.
