Dear Vice President Cheney,
You have had quite a time of it lately. For the past few weeks, you have been all over the media telling the public that President Obama has made us less secure than the Bush Administration.
Not bad for a guy who craved secrecy during his eight years as the Vice President.
But, Mr. Vice President, it is time for you to tell us how you know we are worse off. Tell us something new, besides calling for publication of the two alleged classified memos that show that torture saved United States lives.
Dick, tell us how safe we really were under your command. Now that we have heard your claim that you kept us safe the last 7 ½ years of the Bush Administration numerous times, we need some information from you.
How did you miss the warnings of 9/11? Put down the 9/11 Commission Report, which whitewashed the whole matter and answer how other nations, such as Israel and Germany told us ahead of time of the attacks but you, the self-anointed master of security knew nothing of it.
Were you involved in the planning, execution and/or cover-up of 9/11? That would certainly give us the answer to my first question. If you could bring on a “terrorist” attack, it would also explain how you could call them off the last 7 ½ years.
It is suspicious enough that you and then-President Bush agreed to talk to the Commission only on the conditions that you two go together privately, that no recording equipment be used and that you not answer under oath. One can only wonder what they asked you two that we could not hear.
Maybe you explained why you, the person in charge of federal agencies for the purpose of fighting terrorists, scheduled training drills for stopping terrorists on September 11th. The training drills baffled our air defense and helped to render them ineffective.
Maybe you explained how the Federal Aviation Administration, under your control, got confused as to how many planes had been hijacked because of the drills and because of mysterious dots on their computer screens.
Maybe you explained the slow military response and why, according to then-Transportation Secretary Norm Mineta, you called off a shoot-down of the plane that hit the Pentagon.
So many questions, Mr. Vice President.
Before you go on about how safe you made us from terrorists, you should go back to your secret location and come up with some answers for us about whether you supported terrorism.
