The Bush regime ignored the UN in their rush to invade and occupy Iraq. This same Bush regime now wants the UN's blessing on their new imperialism toward Iran.

The headline yesterday said just the opposite, reporting that Iran's president had waved off the importance of any UN resolution against its nuclear program saying, "Those who want to prevent Iranians from obtaining their right (to a nuclear program), should know that we do not give a damn to such resolutions."

The International Atomic Energy Association is expected to report Friday that it didn't get 'all of its questions answered', and the obvious that Iran has resumed its enrichment of uranium. Earlier reports were that Iran had crashed the nuclear club with the production of an insignificant amount of processed uranium, enough for further research and not much else.

U.S. ambassador John Bolton at the UN yesterday was blustering over and over about the dangers of Iran's 'nuclear weapon's program', even though no one, not even the IAEA with their unanswered questions, has been able to verify whether such a program even exists. Earlier in the year National Intelligence Director John Negroponte admitted before the Senate Intelligence Committee that Iran does not have the capability to produce a bomb. Even the IAEA, in their initial report, said it didn't have enough information to conclude that Iran has a nuclear weapon's program.

Iran denies they want a bomb. They say their nuclear program is for peaceful purposes. As Negroponte testified, Iran's military is designed for a defense of their borders. Their country is, in fact, vulnerable to the atomic arsenals of most of the countries who would sit in judgment of their nuclear activities, several who are neighbors and one interloping invader of the sovereign nation next-door.

It's amazing to hear the paranoid posturing of U.S. representatives like Bolton, who's State Dept. today branded Iran as the world's most threatening state sponsor of terrorism. Even as the Pentagon brandishes war plans for nuclear bunker-busting attacks and invasion of Iran, it is using the American offices of diplomacy to plot and instigate the overthrow of the Iranian government with a war chest of over $75m allocated by Congress a few months back. Elizabeth Cheney, the nepotist 'democracy czar' is manning offices from Washington to Dubai to direct Iran regime change for the imperious White House cabal who appointed her.

The Bush regime is the world's biggest danger, notwithstanding the violence of rogue bombers, kidnappers, and the usual pack of dictators and oppressors who lord over the hapless inhabitants of their desperate homelands. With their quest for new nuclear weapons, their unilateral invasion of Iraq (which the UN's Annan called "illegal"), the invasion and occupation of Afghanistan, and the indiscriminate bombings across borders (like in Pakistan), they have demonstrated to the world their lethal ambition to dominate everyone else through the arbitrary application of our nation's destructive forces.

Yesterday, the UN affirmed their member's responsibility to 'protect populations from genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity'. In September they affirmed their responsibility to step in when civilians were targeted. It called for an end to unaccountable killings and prosecution of those responsible for war crimes "if a society in conflict or recovering from conflict is to come to terms with past abuses committed against civilians affected by armed conflict."

The Bush regime has long asserted their immunity from prosecution by international courts. Stephen Hadley, NSA director, wrote in a byliner that "the international tribunal is a threat to the United States. The U.S. has a number of serious objections to the International Criminal Court," he wrote. Yet, the Bush regime is determined to make the case that Iran somehow threatens the international community without a weapon, without any means to produce such a weapon, and without any action that could be interpreted as a threat to anyone except in defense of their own borders.

But, it's not clear they'll get the cover this time either from the world body. Russia and China both have huge oil deals with Iran; Japan, France, Pakistan and others have oil deals as well with the ranking member of Bush's 'evil axis'. These nations will likely resist imposing sanctions on Iran which would almost certainly be exploited by the U.S. to push for war when Bush tires of pretending to care about diplomacy.

Bush doesn't give a damn about the UN. The envoy he sent there over the objections of the U.S. Congress doesn't give a damn about the UN, evidenced by a 1994 World Federalist Society panel discussion during which now-ambassador Bolton declared that the "the United Nations does not exist".

"The Iranians have to comply or the Security Council is prepared to take other steps," Bolton said yesterday.

He then declared that the U.S. was prepared to act "within or without the Security Council."

Bush knows he has to turn them against Iran somehow, or, at least, get all of his allies and his own posse in a room together, set everyone against each other, and walk out on the chaos, claiming that someone would have to act if they weren't going to get it together and stand up to the 'evil' one. It worked before . . . our Congress let him get away with it.

They didn't give a damn about the UN either.
