Professor Andrew J. Bacevich has the solution to Bush's Operation Iraqi F--kup. It's Operation Iraqi F--kup ll.

Quoting from an article in the Christian Science Monitor by Professor Andrew J. Bacevich:

"Americans, wrote Robert Kagan and William Kristol in September 2004, 'have a profound moral obligation to the Iraqi people.'"

Actually, the cause of the problems in Iraq, for the Iraqis and us, is that Bush, Cheney, Kagan and Kristol did not fulfill their moral obligation to leave the Iraqis alone.

"Instead, "we" have off-loaded our responsibility onto the backs of a relative handful of US troops."

Actually, "we" have not off-loaded any responsibility, we have placed the responsibility squarely where it belongs, on George Bush, Dick Cheney and their neo-cons.

"How, if at all, can the US discharge its obligations not only to the people of Iraq but to our own soldiers as well?"

Actually, the US has no obligations to the people of Iraq.  George Bush does.  Dick Cheney does.  The neo-cons do.  The US has the obligation of ending the Iraq war and bringing the troops home.

"In short, the war's opponents must align the moral concerns, which are complex, with their seemingly straightforward policy prescription."

Our moral concerns are not complex, and they are already aligned with our straightforward policy prescription.  They are, straightforwardly, to end the war and bring the troops home.

"We should repay that debt much as we repaid our debt to the people of South Vietnam after 1975; by offering them sanctuary."

Bacevich is a professor of history but has not studied history enough to understand that the people of South Vietnam were not trying to kill each other off because they were of different sects of the same religion, as the Iraqis are doing. 

"To Iraqis seeking to escape the brutality and chaos that we have helped create, the 'golden door' into the New World should open.  Call it Operation Iraqi Freedom ll."

Bacevich is proposing that we move the population of Iraq to the United States and declare it a victory.  He wants to move the sectarian violence out of Iraq and establish a new round of sectarian violence in the US.  This is a great idea for the Iraqis hell-bent on sectarian cleansing.  Not only will they have more members of the Islamic religion of different sects to try to kill off, they'll have the added bonus of Christians, Jews and other religions to start on when they run out of Muslims.

Moving twenty million people with fanatical religious beliefs and of a stunningly different culture to the US is a prescription for chaos.  A better alternative is to leave the Iraqi people in Iraq, declare Iraq the fifty-first state and send George Bush and Dick Cheney there as governor and lieutenant governor to deal with the mess they've made.  Better yet, let's bring the troops home and send them there, anyway.  At the current rate of 100 troops killed a month, they'd last about 15 hours.
