Boston to NYC, the condition of trains, subway, buses

Message Steven G. Erickson

The picture above shows what is assumed to be very old, possibly rusted and rotted iron, not steel, riveted maybe a century ago, covered up by cement supporting untold amounts of weight, and probably other trains. This could be a disaster waiting to happen. Photo was shot by Steven G. Erickson as part of the video below, isolated for a still photo.

I have traveled inside, and outside, of the US by train, bus, subway, taxi, and airplane. How the US can be seen by those coming into the US from other countries is highlighted by below video. It is easier to get around outside the US by mass transit, and public transportation is more widespread, cleaner, more convenient, and more user friendly. I was in many countries and didn't know the language. I navigated myself around easier there, than in US.

In Connecticut, I got off at a train station and needed to walk 8 blocks to get to my destination to help render video I said I would. Some of that video is embedded in this previous Opednews post. There are no sidewalks to walk on, it is a major route and vehicles travel at almost high speed on a thin road with a squeeze point near a bridge. I have been brushed by trucks and have nearly been hit. I was told there have been deaths on that particular stretch because of the lack of sidewalks to the train station.

Do you have to be the 1% in America to get any consideration?

I quit my one day, to two day a week, some times full week, and sometimes two weeks off at a clip, yogurt factory job. I couldn't afford to eat, and keep warm, so I grabbed just what I needed and am on the road. I  grabbed my laptop, backpack, and video camera to go out on the road from Brattleboro, Vermont. That video (if you don't like background music, hit mute):

The following video was published as a Flash video, which are no longer allowed. Here is the video link: VIEW VIDEO (in a new browser window)

I am going to find couches to sleep on, wherever I end up. I used a good portion of my remaining resource getting down to Connecticut, but I have been worse off. The police and courts didn't give me brain damage and 6 months in the hospital as did the guy in the video at the bottom who got punished for having a taillight out in Florida. Video of that man talking about that, at bottom of this post. My life, financial security, ability to get a job, apartment or house, or remain in contact with friends and family after being railroaded to prison for resisting being mugged on my own property in Stafford Springs, Connecticut, has ruined my life, possibly in a comparable fashion. My daughter was 15 when she last talked to me calling me "Daddy" and saying "I love you". She is now 25.

Well, this story is about mass transit in the US.

Because of my economic situation, I would like better than the wagging subways making so much noise giving me concern about my own personal safety. There are strange smells coming up into the train, unlike in the richer parts of Manahattan, as compared to Astoria, Queens, Brooklyn etc. I was in the former USSR and didn't have concerns taking any of their mass transit, even just after the wall of communist oppression fell.

Here is a little of what I see when I use mass transit:

I would probably not be taking public transportation and probably be funded for my news reporting, documentary, and independent movie projects if I was teamed up with someone to be in front of my camera like the "Hot for Words" host, a typical video example:

And she, from what I may have read, is a more than a millionaire for doing uploads like that.

I do know musicians, those who do a better job editing video, and where I can get professional cameras and sound equipment. I wish to expand on the below where I wielded a high definition video camera:

So, in order to make fictional independent videos, exposing the injustice of US courts, the brutal policing, and the unrepresentative US Government, I have to think outside the box. Imagine having what happened to the guy below whose taillight was out, happening to you:

But, until I get projects that are funded for better quality, I will continue to be an advocate for better public transportation in the US. Well, even if I do very well, I still want better public transportation for myself, and all Americans, regardless of your wealth.

This is my mission [post].

And here is a little more of my angst in a [blog post].
