Article: America is Becoming a Failed State

Is there anyone else that’s more than a little worried about just where this nation is headed? I believe that a great majority of Americans have forgotten just how far down the road from a representative form of government we have traveled in the last six years. Just about seven years ago we had a sitting President that was actually impeached because he talked a willing woman over the age of 21 to perform oral sex upon him and lied about it so as not to embarrass himself, and his family and the office of The Presidency. A scant seven years later we have a government that lied to the American public about a “Clear and Present Danger” and took this nation to war in which people have been tortured and killed by the hundreds of thousands.

Where did we actually go wrong? How can this be the same country that impeached a very popular President for lying under oath to a Special Prosecutor that spent over ten million dollars of our tax money only to come up with the fact that Clinton got a blow job? That my friends was the beginning of a Republican claim to power that has practically ruined this country. Not only was that the most expensive blowjob in the history of mankind, it also paved the way for the “moral majority” to come to power, and using the power of the pulpit and the Press, they have turned this country into one of the most horrific, reviled regimes that has held power since Adolf Hitler convinced the German People that they were “the master race”.

This President has brought this nation to the point of dictatorship. Even this Democratic Congress with it’s “big win” this week on cutting funding to this war after sometime in 2008, has also funded this war with 114 Billion more dollars. This is no “call to conscience” for Congress. All they have managed to do is to make certain that this President will use his veto power to send this bill back to Congress. This entire war is illegal and immoral and the American people want it stopped. Are the politicians stopping it?

Actually, we are worse off now than we were before the elections. The Democratic win that installed a majority of Democrats in the House and Senate actually did nothing more than to legitimatize this illegal war. Before the Democratic victory, we could say that it was the right wing republicans that brought this war to the American people. Now, after funding this war, Congress is effectively “buying in” to this naked excuse to grab Iraq’s oilfields. Now it’s not just a Republican mistake, both parties must share in the blame. We Americans have a right to be outraged for we have throughout this folly, effectively lost control of our government by the people.

This war is not in the best interests of the American people. We have told our so-called leaders that for the last three years. All polls show that over 60% of our people do not approve of this war. Polls also indicate that the approval rating of this President has dropped to a paltry 27%. Why hasn’t Congress adopted articles of impeachment for his numerous lies, his “Presidential Signing Statements” that virtually let him ignore the laws of this land, the outing of a CIA Agent, and the wiretapping of American Citizens? We can go on, holding detainees without due process, or for anyone considered a “terrorist”, allowing certain forms of torture, allowing the government to search inside a person’s residence without a search warrant, the list goes on and on. Meanwhile the media continues to act as if all of these things are of no great consequence. They go on blithely reporting the news and ignoring certain truths that they feel might stir up trouble. They allow the government to redact their stories and report word for word the party line. We have no free press in the United States except for what you read on the internet. All of the major News outlets, the TV stations and the newspapers report exactly what the government wants reported.

This is not the world I envisaged when I was a young man. This is exactly what I believe the German people went through when Hitler came to power., Our Congress and our Media have done nothing to alert ordinary citizens that their rights are being subjugated by the government. The time for action is almost past. Either Congress impeaches Bush and Cheney for High Crimes and Misdemeanors (Felonies), or they will cease to be defenders of our freedoms. We will have no Freedoms. What we lost since 9/11 must be restored or our nation will, like Iraq, become a failed state. This isn’t a prediction, it is a reality.
