Pro Choice
By robert braunstein
Poem, Society, Politics, Election Campaigns,
::::::::
Reprobate politicians crisscrossing the country,
Focusing on swing states;
Introduced by local party officials
Pretending phony intimacy;
Talking to a crowd
They've vetted for troublemakers. Each
Surrounded by security,
Trying to be relaxed; They are
Pandering to regional concerns,
Grasping their stump speech
Written by someone else;
Putting on their most "Sincere" mask,
Hoping their charisma will get them by,
Instead of content or ideas. They are
Bobbing and weaving, ducking direct questions,
Trying to stay on message,
Not varying too much from the script.
Projecting empathy, sincerity
Frequently lying,
Led by their handlers,
Like some exotic animal;
Extending their manicured hand,
Only to reach into your pocket
And rob you of your vote. Both
Pretending they represent your interests
While fronting for the rich and corporate
Interests. Each
Trying to look folksy,
Never to return or deliver
Anything substantially different
From the other monkey.
