The Bush administration warned the American people before the release of details of its FY 2005 budget today that there would be a degree of austerity heretofore unseen in its tenure. Of course there were cuts in the offing; the budget deficit, resultant mainly from tax cuts passed over the past three years, has blossomed. The Office of Management (OMB) and Budget projects the deficit to be $521 billion in FY 2004 and its excessively rosy prognostication foresees $361 billion in deficits in FY 2005.
