How You Can Help

After five years and a few months in operation OpEdNews has done pretty well, with monthly visitors ranging half a million to more than 800,000.

We top the google rankings (first second or third position) for keywords like progessive news, progressive opinion, progressive op-eds, liberal news, liberal opinion and liberal op-eds Top google rankings for keywords like progressive opinion, liberal opinion, and first page rankings for progressive news and liberal news. We publish at least as many articles as published by major national magazines.

Contribute $

OEN has grown because of you, our readers, writes and community members. We're a bottom-up site that survives and thrives because you make it happen.

The volunteers who have come forward to help have made all the difference in helping OpEdNews.com grow so it can make a bigger and bigger difference. And it can pay back too. One of our first volunteers, a writer who contributed numerous articles in our first year of operation, first got a job blogging for the DCCC, then for the speaker of the house. Others have made connections that took their books soaring to new heights on Amazon.

Some volunteers have done one-time efforts,  helping with layout, art, format, and some are regular helpers, sending in suggestions for articles we should link to. We can never have too much of this kind of help. Some people write letters and we work with them to become contributing writers or even bloggers.

Areas Where we need help:

Editors; -to help evaluate the growing number of article submissions we receive and then publish them using our amazing content management system.-to lead in building great content coverage for specific topic areas.

An RSS expert to help us  integrate RSS feeds from other sites that we aggegate on our site.

Artists and Designers: To create artwork for Tee-shirts and other premium items we could use to raise funds.

Photography and Image acquisition editors to help us find and add image content for our front page and headline articles.

Fundraising experts; We need help making this site work financially.

Web Designers; We do content great. OpEdNews can definitely use the help of a good web designer.

Logo Design for hats, shirts, our website header. This is an important one.

Web programmers to add new features.

We know we need a number of different kinds of volunteers, and probably could use other volunteers we don't even know about.

Some more details.

Send us article Tips:  We have a great, growing team of readers who send us links to articles that they recommend we add to our Front page. SOme send us a few every day, some send one every few weeks. When you read an article or op-ed that looks perfect for OpEdNews.com, please send it to us. The format that works the best is the title of the article with the link embedded with it, just like they look on our cover page. If you can include the link and the actual article, you save us a few steps. Also, please mention the source or publication.  Don't worry about sending us something we may already have. Then, you'll be reinforcing our choices, that we're on target.

Contribute $ any amount helps. We have some projects that will take $500 and $1000. But we recently received a $3 paypal contribution and were happy to personally send a thank you email for it too.

Be a Supporter: If you like what we're doing, Get the word out. Tell the people on your e-mail lists about us. Add a link to your blog or website. Make sure you include our web address when you forward articles. If you go to a media website we've linked to, and then send the article on to a friend, add a comment that you found out about it at OpEdNews.com.

Contribute Content :  One of the main reasons we've created the OpEdNews.com website is to add another place for voices to be raised. We're looking for well written. smart opinion or news articles. At this time, there's no pay. We ask for permission to use the article and to re-print it a future time, but we leave you with all other rights to it. We're not using a lawyer (any lawyer volunteers?) and this policy may change as our learning curve climbs upwards. Check out our Writers Guidelines

Contribute Visual Content  really needed: we need graphics that we can use. Get out your digital camera and catch news happening. We'll take digital still shots of TV if the TV story is newsworthy. WE could also use original art.  At this time, there's no pay. We ask for permission to use the article and to re-print it a future time, but we leave you with all other rights to it. We're not using a lawyer (any lawyer volunteers?) and this policy may change as our learning curve climbs upwards.

Be A Field "news desk Editor" News desk editors dig up news and handle calls from people calling in news and PR. If you enjoy this website, then you can help dig up news articles  and op-ed articles that have been published on the web. Ideally, if you send these suggestions to us as active links, then it makes things much easier to check out and then add to the website. IN addition to needing people feeding in national, international and political news we need experts in the arts, sciences, health, media, business, technology, even sports, travel, self help, celebrity news and strange and unusual stuff. Regular helpers could become topic editors.

Web Site Experts: We need help automating some of the functions of the website, getting discussion boards, automatic uploading of press releases, etc., favorite articles, newsletter and newsletter sign-up.   Eventually, we'll probably need more significant hosting capacity.

Advisory Board; We're looking for prominent and or deep thinking, visionary leaders to help guide our growth and evolution.

Letters we seek editorial letters responding to editorials we either publish or link to.

Feedback We need feedback about the website-- suggestions, construction criticism of format, whatever.

Rob began his Bottom-up Radio show, broadcast on WNJC 1360 AM to Metro Philly, also available on iTunes, covering the transition of our culture, business and world from predominantly Top-down (hierarchical, centralized, authoritarian, patriarchal, big) to bottom-up (egalitarian, local, interdependent, grassroots, archetypal feminine and small.)
