Now that Mars is moving ahead again in Virgo, Mars can help us become a master at whatever we do.  Virgo is the sign of the craftsperson, someone who takes the time to perfect what needs doing.  Virgo is analytical and practical, wanting to find the best solution to problems.   Mars in Virgo is the master craftsman, striving for perfection in order to achieve his desires.  Mars in Virgo is modest, helpful, analytical and willing to be of service to others and to the world, but we have to watch out for self-criticism and perfectionism if we want our Mars to work competently. When Mars goes retrograde in Virgo, our desires are scrutinized and carefully considered, since we want to show the world the best that we are.  It isn't about perfection, but rather wholeness.

Venus is the planet that symbolizes our ability to connect with what we love.  The goddess Aphrodite/Venus is not only the goddess of Love, Beauty and Sexuality, she is the goddess of Wisdom and Wholeness.  It is the call of Venus that awakens Psyche within us; it is Love that shows us how to be whole.  Venus calls us to the deeper realities of the Spirit Incarnate.  She is the goddess who knows that Love is the most central Law of the Cosmos and she is the gift the Great Spirit of Life has given us.  What a dry, bitter world it would be without Love!

Have you seen Venus shining so brightly in the evening sky?  She is slowing down now, about to turn retrograde on Tuesday, May 15th at 7:33am PDT/ 10:33am EDT.  She will begin to move back toward the setting sun until she disappears in the sun's rays.  Then Venus will move across the face of the Sun on Tuesday June 5th at 16* Gemini.  (More on this in the next few newsletters -- we'll see her toward sunset in the western USA.)  Venus moved over the face of the Sun back in 2004 and now eight years later we'll see it again for the last time in another 100 years.  Venus, which is now the Evening Star, will become the Morning Star once again.

Venus is traveling through the sign of Gemini, retrograding from May 15 to June 27, from 24* to 8* Gemini.  When Venus goes retrograde, we re-evaluate our values and our relationship, which were formed by our family, our culture and our religions.  Now we get to see what our hearts really yearn for, our true feelings about what is important to us.

Venus in Gemini knows that good communication skills are an important part of any relationship.  In Gemini, Venus advocates for a meeting of the minds before deep intimacy can be achieved.  Venus here wants to be a good companion, using her intellectual talents as well as her enthusiasm for life in all her relations.  This airy Venus wants to play with everyone and certainly doesn't want to be "tied down' unless she does the tying.  Venus says we need to find new ways of relating that fit our new sense of ourselves.  There is nothing possessive or dominating about Venus here -- it's all about the ability to partner up and play with ideas, feelings, intuitions, purposes and each other.  Nothing is set, nothing settled.  It's all about curiosity and experimenting.  Of course this can lead to shallow interactions and indecision when it comes to feelings.  But at its highest levels, Venus in Gemini calls us to open our minds and hearts to each other and see what we can learn about new ways of relating, new ways of giving value to things and people (our money system) and new ways to be creative.

Scorpio Full Moon 2012

The Scorpio Full Moon occurs on May 5, 2012 at 8:35pm PDT/ 11:35pm EDT and May 6th at 3:35am GMT.

The Sabian symbol for the Sun at 17*Taurus is: A symbolic battle between "swords' and "torches'.   On one level, this symbolizes a battle between physical desires and the desire for spiritual illumination.  Dane Rudhyar sees this image as the need to face issues as if there are two opposing sides such as good vs. evil, a polarization of values.  The warrior's Sword of clear thought and Truth, the magician's Wand of intuition and willpower.  I would like to contend that it is the energies of rational thought (swords) and intuition (wands) that are symbolically opposed to each other.  And they don't have to be.  We can learn to bring our intelligence and our intuition into balance.  Our rational thinking is best served when there is an intuitive understanding of the situation, just as our intuition needs a rational foundation to build with.  These two "opposing' sides of the mind need not be mutually exclusive.  They are meant to complement each other as all oppositions are.  This serves our Venus in Gemini well, since Gemini can describe both the mortal (rational) and the immortal (intuitive) mind.

The Sabian symbol for the Moon at 17*Scorpio is: A Woman, fecundated by her own Spirit, is "Great with Child'.  This is another image of the "Woman Clothed with the Sun, standing on the Moon, crowned by 12 stars, giving birth to the Savior'.  This is Lady Wisdom, the innate potential within us all to give birth to the god-consciousness within, just as the Buddha did under this full Moon.  This image of Lady Wisdom is an important one at this time in our history.  She brings into being a new paradigm, a peaceful Earth.

This potent full Moon is the closest to the Earth this year and therefore exerts a stronger pull on us.  As it rises big and full in the night sky, it calls us to give birth to the powerful destiny seeded within each of us.  This is the year to do it and now is the time to let go of the fears and the demons that keep us caught up in the delusions of our patriarchal society.   We can band together with like-minded people (Venus in Gemini) and create a life that is meaningful, creative and strong (Mars in Virgo).

This Taurus/Scorpio Full Moon asks us to become aware of the people and things we give the highest value to, and to look at the emotional trauma that keeps us apart.  It's time to question our values and beliefs about money, power, happiness and our connection to each other and to the Earth.  There are powerful forces at work determined to keep the old system alive, regardless of how many people and places it destroys.  But we are equally powerful, and the Cosmos is lending us energy to break-through our paralysis and stand up for our beliefs.

The background energies of this full Moon continue to be: the pursuit of justice and the balance between masculine and feminine consciousness, between men and women (Saturn in Libra); a more inclusive vision of well-being for everyone (Neptune/Chiron in Pisces opposite Mars in Virgo opposing the lunar nodes in Gemini/Sagittarius); more care of the Earth (Sun, Ceres, Jupiter and Sedna in Taurus) in our society (Pluto in Capricorn); and a strong sense of our place and purpose in the larger scheme of things (Uranus in Aries).

As I wake up every morning from my dreams, I try to remember where I had traveled to that night.  We all can carry the mystery and beauty of the dreamworld back into our waking reality, bringing the truth of our essential being to light. That's what dreams tell us about -- that essential reality.  That's the initiation we are all going through this year.  So bring back your deep Self to share with the world.

Happy Beltane!  May the Fires of Life burn brightly for you.
Cathy

What to Remember When Waking -- David Whyte

In that first
hardly noticed
moment
to which you wake,
coming back
to this life
from the other
more secret,
moveable
and frighteningly
honest
world
where everything
began,
there is a small
opening
into the new day
which closes
the moment
you begin
your plans.
