This Cancer New Moon is a partial solar eclipse, the third and therefore most important of this series of eclipses.   The Cancer solar eclipse occurs on July 1, 2011 at 1:54 am PDT/ 4:54 am EDT/ 8:54 am GMT and won't be seen except in southern Africa and Antarctica.     The time since Summer Solstice is really part of this eclipse energy.    What's been going on in your life since Solstice?   Read it symbolically.   The Sun hanging in the sky for 3 days between these eclipses emphasizes the seasonal message of fruitful life and bounty and blessings.   Despite various world-wide crises, we need to stay grounded in the Earth's energy, whose present story is that of the Sacred Marriage of Heaven and Earth.   Stay tuned to this story and you'll discover the new story being born in you.

The new Moon solar eclipse forms a grand cross with the cardinal energies we've been dealing with since last summer, energies that harken back to the 60s.   Yes, that was the new birth that began it all, and now this eclipse is going to re-charge our emotional bodies with that dynamic energy of change and revolution.   It is a new birth, with a single purpose.

A grand cross is just that: at least 4 planets in signs that are 90* apart from each other around a circle.   Five planets at this new Moon are in cardinal, pioneering, initiating, action--oriented signs, the four signs that signal the change of seasons: Uranus in Aries' Spring Equinox, Sun/Moon in Cancer's Summer Solstice, Saturn in Libra's Autumn Equinox and Pluto in Capricorn's Winter Solstice.   They lie at the quarter turnings of the Wheel of the Year.   These three outer planets poke and prod at the Sun/Moon, energizing it with deep collective, universal and evolutionary energies, energies that are shaping this new story water we're birthing for the world.

At the new Moon, our solar consciousness and lunar unconscious are at one.   They're focused on the same thing, in this case on Cancer's structuring of our emotional body, a new emotional body for each of us and for the planet. Our emotional body is concerned with security, family, rootedness, nurturing, being, love -- the intangibles of the heart.     The things that make life worth living.   Our feelings and imagination, Cancer's gifts, are the keys to understanding the emotional body and its needs.

A square pushes us into change, it creates a crisis, it brings us to a crossroads.   Decision time!   Change or be changed by circumstances.   The closest aspect (by degree) to this new Moon is the square between the new Moon and Saturn, from 10* Cancer new Moon to 11* Libra Saturn.   The Sun exactly squares Saturn the day after this eclipse, July 2.   So the most intense energy shaping this new story of a re-birth of the emotional body insists that we take the "Other' into consideration.   Fair and balanced partnerships are the new "reality'.   Saturn symbolizes the reality principle, usually shaped by our cultural institutions and beliefs. The old story says that the rich and poor are really not equal, just as men and women are not truly equal. It seems they still operate on the "might makes right' principle.

But if you've freed your Mind, Saturn can help you create a new reality, any that you chose to create from the healing visions that Chiron and Neptune in Pisces are transmitting to the new Moon.   With Mars in Gemini's explosion of new ideas about freedom and justice, we have to take responsibility to make it so in our relationships.    Whatever you envision, it needs to include the Saturn "reality' of equal partnerships, of Libran beauty and grace, diplomacy and charm.   A world of fairness, justice, truth, equality and peace.   Those are Saturn's gifts in Libra.

Saturn limits and disciplines; its energy limits the infinite into the finite, the creative idea into manifestation.   We will only experience frustration and stuck-ness if we let fear of the truth guide us.   Saturn can play the role of Shadow and trickster quite easily.   If our shadow is showing, we can experience it as outer crisis and unexpected challenges.   But this is just Saturn's way of making sure we make deep, practical decisions about how we'll ground in our new story.

So, the Sabian symbol for the new Moon solar eclipse at 10* Cancer is: A large diamond in the first stages of the cutting process. This symbol is perfect as an image of the new emotional body with its new story we are birthing.   A diamond certain is an apt symbol of the spiritual essence within all of us.   The fact that we do have to consciously work with our soul to become the person we incarnated to be makes the rest of the symbol perfect as a metaphor for how the other planets want to shape and hone this diamond body of light.

The Sabian symbol for Saturn at 11* Libra is: A professor peering over his glasses at his students.   It's time to find out if we've learned our lessons of fairness, balance, beauty and truth.   That's the first cut.   How did you do?

The next planet to help shape the new story is an opposition from Pluto in Capricorn on June 27th.   This Pluto opposition asks us to look to the core issue facing us and accept the truth we find there, letting it empower our emotional body.    Pluto in Capricorn is turning up the underbelly of our patriarchal culture.   As we watch its death rattles, what are we taking into our emotional bodies?   Do we watch the decay and despair, or are we using it to envision a better way of life?   Sometimes what we oppose teaches us the most, helping us find solutions to the crisis it has created instead of just cheering its downfall from the sidelines.   Pluto says, "evolve the culture or die'.

Things are not so dire, though, since Jupiter, the energy of curiosity, spiritual awareness and opportunity is in Taurus, sending creative energy to Pluto's dismantling job and providing opportunities for growth of our new story water.   Jupiter in Taurus strengthens our connection to the natural world and Nature's laws. It will help us establish new priorities and global restructuring of our economic, social and political institutions.    As Pluto tears down the corruption in our society, Jupiter brings in the new ecological blueprints to re-build it.   Pluto here asks us for a vision, the story that's cooking in this new Moon.

The Sabian symbol for 7* Capricorn is: A veiled prophet speaks, seized by the power of a god.   This is the part of the story that calls you to be a mouthpiece for the new story being born.   Isn't it exciting!   That old professor Saturn is looking at you too.   He wants to hear what the power of life is saying through you.   This new story, this prophetic insight you have shapes the diamond too.   How was the cut?

The last but not least planet in the grand square is Uranus in Aries.   The Sun squares Uranus on June 26th and Uranus stations retrograde on July 9th.   Uranus, the archetypal starry heavens and primal soup of life; in Aries, he is the rebel and defender of humanity, the innovator and reformer who wants to awaken us to our destiny and new identity so we can face the global cataclysm that is beginning to rock our world.   When we come out of it on the other side of 2023 when Pluto leaves Capricorn, we will have a different world.   And we will be new people if we use the energy of Uranus in Aries to pioneer a new world as the old world order crumbles.   The new global world in our future can be sustainable, peaceful, fruitful, prosperous, healthy and most important, free and equal.   If we each determine to make it so!

The Sabian symbol for Uranus at 5* Aries is: A triangle with wings.   A new dimension of being is envisioned, mobilizing our creative energies and talents.   The triangle, another image of three and so process, has the wings to reach higher and higher.   Our ability to envision something greater and deeper is how we co-create the world.   This gift from Uranus will help us make beautiful cuts in our diamond.

So we have the basic elements of the story water: we are creating the diamond body of light, the emotional body of joy and becoming.   We are challenged to take responsibility for what we've learned and for the visions pouring through us.   Can we rebirth our emotional bodies to encompass this new story?   We can if we are challenged to find our bigger identity, our cosmic purpose.     Which is to ascend to a higher order of consciousness.

This Solar Eclipse cardinal grand cross demands that we take action, but in Cancer, it asks that we do it in a feminine way.   That means give birth to new forms of art and culture; cultivate relationships and food; share creative ideas and practical solutions; drop the fight and turn to making and building.   We can create a healing, nurturing alternative to the institutions that don't work anymore.   A new age, a new perspective is upon us.   The next few years will see the 7 Uranus-Pluto squares, challenging us to work together to bring in the new evolutionary blueprint for our planet.
