The President spoke by telephone with King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain about the ongoing situation in Bahrain, reiterating his condemnation of the violence used against peaceful protesters, and strongly urged the government of Bahrain to show restraint, and hold those responsible for the violence accountable. Source

The President, in a released statement , declared he was, -- deeply concerned by reports of violence in Bahrain, Libya and Yemen. The United States condemns the use of violence by governments against peaceful protesters in those countries and wherever else it may occur. We express our condolences to the family and friends of those who have been killed during the demonstrations. Wherever they are, people have certain universal rights including the right to peaceful assembly. The United States urges the governments of Bahrain, Libya and Yemen to show restraint in responding to peaceful protests, and to respect the rights of their people ."

The President returned to Washington, D.C.

Day726/Feb19th/Saturday: In his Weekly Address, the President said that the United States needed the best trained and best skilled workforce in the world to win the global competition for new jobs and industries, that over the next ten years nearly half of all new jobs will require education beyond high school; and that was why his Administration had made education a top priority, enacting reforms like "Race to the Top," working to make college more affordable, revitalizing community colleges, and launching a nationwide initiative to connect graduates to the businesses that need their skills. Day729/Feb22nd/Tuesday: T he President traveled to Cleveland State University in Cleveland, Ohio, where he attended and provided opening (transcript Video) and closing (transcript Video) remarks at a Winning the Future Forum on Small Business in association with Cleveland State University and northeast Ohio economic development organizations JumpStart and NorTech.

The President returned to the White House, where he and Vice President Joe Biden met with U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates in the Oval Office. Source

The President, in a released statement, extended condolences to the people of New Zealand and to the families and friends of the victims in Christchurch, which had suffered its second major earthquake in six months. The President announced, "To assist in the rescue and recovery efforts, we have agreed to deploy a U.S. Agency for International Development Disaster Assistance Response Team, including an Urban Search and Rescue Team, and we stand ready to provide more assistance as needed."
