Disinformation Attacks Can you imagine a multibillion transnational corporation wants something big-- legislation that will change the way business is done in a way that's a quantum leap better than it currently is?
Can you imagine that corporation framing the legislation as being good for consumers, but woven deep into the close to 100 page bill, there is wording that magically opens doors for the desired changes?
Can you imagine that the bill first written does not have all the elements the corporation wants. Some of them can be "activated" by secondary bills that define things left unclear or vaguely specified in the first bill?
Is it possible for you to consider that the corporation doesn't have its name associated with the bill, that it intentionally wants to appear distant, even not at all connected with the bill, even if the bill would cause changes that ONLY affect the one corporation?
Now, imagine one activist sees through the bill, sees the possiblities for drastic, massive changes in the way things are done if this bill passes. She starts writing about the threat.
Can you imagine the massive corporation, with billions at stake, riding on this bill, sitting idly by?
Can you imagine the corporation diving into the blogosphere, having one of its public relations people openly posting comments disputing the articles on the sites where this woman, this activist posts?
Can you imagine the corporation also using sock puppet pseudonymous identities as well, to attack, dispute and attempt to neutralize the effects of this woman and the growing band of writer she's woken up and recruited to oppose this bill and the slew of related bills initiated by the legislators the corporation has contributed to?
Can you picture these bills, presented as consumer friendly, as protecting consumers, being supported by easily duped non-profit organizations well intendingly wanting to help consumers?
Can you picture agents of the corporation sending out emails and selling a message that the woman attacking the legislation is crazy, or a disinformation agent?
Can you picture well intending liberals doing interviews with representatives of the corporation who are friendly, even laudatory and in agreement on other liberal issues, and the interviews end up favoring the corporate public relations people's message, even though the corporation is HATED by liberals throughout the world, for good reason?
Can you imagine ANY of the above questions being easy to imagine separately, or that they could all be true? If so, then you have a good idea of what's been happening with HR 875-- a bill that activist Linn Cohen-Cole has been doing a Paul Revere digital ride on--
Paul Revere's Ride
by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Listen my children and you shall hear Of the midnight ride of Paul Revere,
On the eighteenth of April, in Seventy-five;
Hardly a man is now alive Who remembers that famous day and year.
He said to his friend,
"If the British march By land or sea from the town to-night,
Hang a lantern aloft in the belfry arch Of the North Church tower as a signal light,--
One if by land, and two if by sea;
And I on the opposite shore will be, Ready to ride and spread the alarm
Through every Middlesex village and farm,
For the country folk to be up and to arm."
And Linn Cohen-Cole has been treated like whistleblowers everywhere-- attacked as a crazy, accused of working FOR the company-- Monsanto-- that she believes is behind this legislation. Read her take on HR 875 here: A solemn walk through HR 875 Check out the 70 plus articles she's written and then decide if she's a loon or if the mega billion dollar corporation she's courageously taken on is investing some spare change-- a few hundred thousand dollars-- on attacking and destroying her and neutralizing her message.
Then, get on the phone and tell your legislator to be very careful of any bills that attempt to change the way small, family farming is done-- one of the last respites where big agra still does not control the food chain. And remember, whoever controls the food chain controls enormous power.
This article has been written because numerous progressive individuals and websites have been duped by this process. Be cautious.
When a progressive site suddenly posts articles defending one of the most reviled corporations on the planet, you have to wonder what's going on. That has happened at RawStory.com, which linked to this article, on a blog in existence a very short time, with no time to build a history of credibility, and it happened on crooksandliars.com. It's amazing how many commenters simply buy the message of one megacorporation-duped blogger.
