After the five-day visit visa expired UN envoy Ibrahim Gambari extended one-day visa in the hope of meeting with Ms Suu Kyi again. Mr. Gambari aides were approaching to the gate of Ms Suu Kyi’s home yesterday to get her attention. But nobody came out to meet them. Mr. Gambari is former Nigerian foreign minister and he replaced the previous envoy Razali Ismail in 2006. His previous visits to Burma after the brutal crack-down on the massive Buddhist monk-led protests were unsatisfactory for the people of Burma. Although he should have visited the places of the demonstrations-Pakhukku, Mandalay, Shwedagon Pagoda and Insein Prison, but he visited the military regime’s monasteries and SPDC offices. He wasted precious time during the previous trips to Burma. He spent little time to talk with the members of NLD party founded by Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi. His efforts to establish a dialogue between the sides has collapsed and he has to return home empty-handed.
