Essay from the silent 99%

Time just flies by"   Here I sit on 2nd shift reading a book, waiting for the shift to end and reading, just reading, while dazing out.   I feel like I am losing a part of myself just watching like a third person in some movie theater that is my life.   Watching when I should be acting, but doing what?

Why do I feel like my whole life is one big waiting game?   Waiting for me to get my turn on the stage and act.   Just scared I guess, but aren't we all?   Too scared to lose a job with benefits to stand up and say that this is wrong.   Too scared to be arrested or have someone challenge our beliefs to actually say them out loud.   That is the world that most of us live in or at least I do most of the time.

I wonder when I see the protesters claiming to stand for the 99% if they actually mean me.   Did they notice that the election was stolen back in 2000?   Why didn't they protest then?   Where were they after 9/11 when we went to war when there were other options?   Where were they in 2003 when we attacked Iraq for the oil and for Bush's ego or revenge?   Didn't they notice what the small companies already knew in 2000, that if Bush was elected they were screwed?   No more money for training, or other things that he considered optional; only jobs for Yes men in Bush's government.

Where were they when Obama was running for president?   Didn't they notice that he never stood up for anything before there were plenty of supporters for an idea?   Didn't they notice how he treated the guy that made his website?   He certainly wasn't a liberal.   I don't understand why they thought he would be.   He isn't democrat as far as I can tell.   More like a moderate Republican than any Democrat.   Didn't it scare people the way they worshiped Obama like some kind of savior when he was elected?   As if he would solve all problems.   But he stood for no one; certainly not the "99%".   He helped the Republicans or they wouldn't one so many seats in the senate and house.

It's funny that now that it affects their pocketbook that they protest.   They ignored the violations to the Geneva Convention that were broken time and time again by Bush's government.   It was just easy to forget these foreigners might want to be treated like human beings too.

So now they protest as the country goes down in a depression again.   Despite what they say, that is what is happening.   Pretend all they want, it won't change the truth.   Why else would the establishment be scared and the police be so violent?   They need the sheep and that is us, without us, they can't live the life that they want; the one of ease and luxury.

So now they protest, these "99%".   But only for the money that they want back, not for the human rights that are quickly vanishing.   Society disintegrates when we stop caring about the least in our society; children, prisoners, prisoners of war, women.   Why are we afraid to hear the discordant voice?   The one that says I don't agree with you or don't believe in your god?   Will your god vanish if I don't believe?   Will you be hurt if I take a birth control pill or abort some cells?   It all seems to be about control; control of necessities, food, water, housing, right to my body, speech, media, government, military, police.   Control these and I am powerless.   Maybe that is why I don't protest?   So far I have a job with benefits and a roof over my head.   When I went to my elected officials with complaints; they just gave me platitudes.   So why believe that these "99%" will be any better?   Maybe they are just the Tea Party for the Democrats?

What do I do as I watch my country, my society, go down the tubes?   So far I work extra shifts, keep my head down.   Hope they don't start asking for loyalty oaths.   Because I am really poor with languages, just can't roll my tongue to save my life.   Four years of German in High School is too long ago to really help.   What nation is going to notice before it is too late that we are becoming a dictatorship more than a Republic?   By the time they do, too many other countries will be just like us.   Worship the right god in the right way.   Say the right thing, don't offend or else you might get beaten for locking arms with another person.

Maybe it is easier to just drift off and be oblivious to it all.   Just watch Fox News and let them tell you what to think, whom to vote for, whom to hate?   It would be easy with no job and just time on your hands.   Then you protest because you have nothing else to do.   But when you work, all leisure time is precious.   Protesting takes time away from family and friends.   So maybe that is why I don't.   Maybe they don't represent me because I don't protest and get my voice heard.   But then again, I get pepper sprayed by police either or beaten with night-sticks.

By the time they come for me it will be too late as no one will be left to stand up for me"
