As I monitored the report that Hamas had ended the truce with Israel and of rocket bombs being fired into Israel, I was saddened, knowing the Israelis would not tolerate this. Sure enough, the call for a response was huge, just as it would be in any nation.
Just imagine if this went on for a week, with over 80 rockets fired from mexico into southern California.
The question in congress would be whether we should nuke Tijuana or just use a hail of 5,000 pound bunker busters. Sure there would be people saying "but the rockets didn't kill anyone." And others would say, "this is a conspiracy to blame the Mexicans. American black ops troops fired them from Mexico."
Most likely, Tijuana would be turned into a ghost town within days of such rocket attacks. Bush OR Obama would not wait nearly as long as the Israelis did to respond. And they would not tolerate an single rocket firing without exacting a massive toll.
To suggest that Hamas has the right to fire rockets into Israel as Freedom Fighters is really misguided.
To suggest that Israel is justified in killing all of those people is also wrong.
Yet, Hamas, as the ruling party, is responsible for what happens on its territory, including rocket firings. They did declare the end to the truce. The people suggesting that US or Israeli troops or agents fired the rockets are forgetting that Hamas declared an end to the truce. I would not be surprised to see the same commenters deny the holocaust. Do you?
I think J-Street's spokesperson has some good ideas
Statement by Jeremy Ben-Ami, Executive Director of J Street, on Israeli Airstrikes in Gaza
Meanwhile, it's interesting how the anti-semites come out of the woodwork when Israel does anything. As soon as you blame JEWS or "the Jewish People" instead of Israeli politicians, you become an anti-semite, in my book. Might as well blame all Christians for attacking Iraq, with that kind of bigoted thinking.
Israel's response is stupid, but probably the same that ANY nation would take-- ANY, if rocket bombs were fired into it from another nation.
Haters who polarize the situation blaming JEWS instead of seeking solutions only make things worse. Justifying violence on either side only makes things worse. We need to learn from Ghandi and MLK. How can peace loving-Israelis and friends of Israel come up with solutions that don't include violence, especially when they are faced with violence?
