As the DOW was down 670 points, the house was voting on the Wall street bailout.
They came up short, even allowing votes to come in after the deadline.
The vote reached 228 opposed to 205 for, and within ten minutes, was 226 to 207. To pass, supporters need 218 votes.
Numbers:
Yea Nay
Democratic 141 94
Republican 66 132
totals 207 226
As the vote came in, the dow dropped from down 670 to down around 450 and when bitter discussions after the failed effort to pass the bill emerged, making it clear no bill would be passed in the next few days, the DOW closed down 659, and it appears to be fropping even further after hours.
