"Thou art God and I am God and all that groks is God, and I am all that I have ever been or seen or felt or experienced. I am all that I grok." (Robert Heinlein, Stranger in a Strange Land, 1961. P.474.)
Robert Heinlein's marvelous book became one of the defining
stories of the 60s. A story of a man
born on Mars who comes back to Earth to teach people a new consciousness,
Heinlein's story envisioned people engaging in sacred sex without jealousy or
possessiveness, and learning how to regulate their physical bodies, develop
their "psychic' abilities and understand that there is no real death but merely
a transformation of form without the loss of essence. The essential part remains in us and with us
in shared communion.
"Thou art God and I am God."
This is the essential Pisces message. We are all One, with each other and with Spirit. We are all God, just as our Great Teachers proclaimed throughout past ages. Pisces is the Cosmic Ocean, Jung's Collective Unconscious, the Akashic realm of emotional energy which we share through the World Soul. It is the repository of all that has occurred here in the earthly realm: the wisdom, sorrows, loves and betrayals of humanity.
That's why so many Pisces are shapeshifters -- they can tap into this vast cosmic ocean of experience and become what you need them to be. They are Empaths who merge with your feelings. They understand where you're coming from and can entrain with you. Pisces is all about fusion -- about Oneness. When we travel through the zodiac and get to Pisces, we become a drop in the cosmic ocean and blend with it.
To "grok' has many meanings but in essence it means this Piscean ability to "get' the essence of a person or situation through this emotional merging. "I grok the importance of this cusp moment' is that intuitive knowing when you reach a moment of decision and choice. "I grok who you are at your deepest level, and I love you from my deepest level.' The Piscean inclination to compassion, empathy, creativity and vision help us to "grok' the truths of Life. It is an intuitive, heart-centered consciousness, trained by the goddess energy of Aphrodite, who was born of this cosmic ocean.
In the 60s, a "counter-culture' was born that began to explore the divine feminine, sexuality, spirituality, alternative medicines, ecology, intuitive wisdom, emotional intelligence, body knowledge and creativity. But the larger patriarchal culture banished these tools of empathetic "grokking' from the new rules of the capitalist game. People were viewed as "consumers' rather than souls, and the only thing our corporations "grokked' was how to put people to sleep with an overabundance of stuff. It reminds me of the scene in the Disney movie Pinocchio where the naughty boys are taken to an amusement park and through over-indulgence turn into donkeys.
While many baby-boomers reveled in the new-found sexual freedom of the 60s, Heinlein's description of sexual freedom went deeper. It was an insightful understanding of the need for deep sexual healing between the sexes and the power that comes from the joining of two people - body, mind and spirit. As in all things, it's hard work to get to the point where we can "grok' each other and love each other in fullness.
" Male-femaleness is the greatest gift we have " The actual joining and blending of two physical bodies with simultaneous merging of souls in shared ecstasy of love, giving and receiving and delighting in each other."(Stranger, p. 474.)
Love and sexuality are two of the greatest gifts life has to offer us. Of course, first we have to know and love ourselves at those deep levels before we can love another or reach a full understanding of the needs of the moment. At this moment, Mars is retrograde in Virgo, loaning us energy to know our Selves in this way. Remember to ask these planetary entities for help. They will loan you their energy if you consciously connect with them through ritual or meditation.
"The Truth is simple but the Way of Man is hard. First you must learn to control your S elf. The rest follows. Blessed is he who knows himself and commands himself, for the world is his and love and happiness and peace walk with him wherever he goes." (Stranger, p. 483).
