The shrill hysteria regarding a possible Israeli/American pre-emptive strike on Iran has not abated since the election and inauguration of Barack Obama. If anything it has become worse with officials such as Israel’s Ehud Barak (former PM and person responsible for the most recent massacres at Beirut and Gaza) stating that an attack is ‘inevitable’.

No matter that the UN maintains that Iran’s nuclear ambitions are entirely legal and peaceful. The United Nations has long been vilified by neo-con America, even to the point of being considered a tool of Satan or ‘the Antichrist’, and Israel remains its most egregious human rights transgressor as it continues to steal Palestinian land and to conduct its sixty-year Holocaust against the Palestinian people.

No matter that even if Iran, a signatory to the Non-proliferation Treaty, were to develop a single nuclear weapon, it would be certain suicide to attempt to use it against Israel’s arsenal of between one hundred fifty and two hundred nuclear weapons, and the latter’s avowed and unquestioned willingness to obliterate the entire region. Of course Israel has always refused to sign the Non-proliferation Treaty, and its weapons were acquired entirely illegally with American complicity.

And of course America itself possesses thousands of nuclear weapons and continues to build more as it ignores signed treaties and protocols dealing with reduction. Once again what’s good for the goose is anathema for the gander, even if the rank hypocrisy is staggering.

Recall also that Iran, who unlike Israel and the US has threatened and harmed no one, does have defense agreements with both Russia and China, raising the possibility that any attack upon her soil could quickly escalate into a major nuclear conflagration and the end of civilization.

Indeed, this is the plan of choice for some of the American neo-con policy-makers. So religiously bent are these Crocodile Christians that they are actually hoping for nuclear Armageddon in the Middle East as that will entail, in their warped thinking, the Second Coming and their own rapture up to heaven. And to hell with the rest of us. It’s hard to believe that such religious dementia could even partially infect a major power’s foreign policy, but it is present.

Many have wondered how the tiny country of Israel, almost entirely dependent upon never-ending United States largesse (annual billions of dollars, all the latest weaponry, endless vetoes at the UN, endorsement of any Israeli genocide-du-jour, etc.) could hold such sway even in the face of the 1967 deliberate air and sea attack on the clearly identifiable research ship Liberty, which claimed 34 American lives and wounded 170, being repeatedly caught spying on America, or apparently having foreknowledge of 9/11 as Mossad agents filmed the demise of the Twin Towers while cheering and dancing. Since the end of the Cold War Israel’s strategic importance to the US is greatly diminished, and yet the latter continues to support Israel even against its own interests, and at great expense to its own reputation and standing in the Arab world, and indeed the world in general. Why?

Money. AIPAC (The American Israel Public Affairs Committee) is one of Washington’s largest, richest, and most influential lobbies. What AIPAC wants, AIPAC gets, including Presidents in their pockets. It is not hard to buy Congress which has long been bought wholesale by Big Pharma, Big Oil, Big Crocodile Christianity, and everything else Big. And AIPAC isn’t just big. It’s huge. So if AIPAC wants Iran…

In the intractable Iran-Iraq war, America supplied weapons (yes, even the precursor ingredients for the poison gas which then good friend Saddam used on the Iranians and later on Iraqi Kurds), and satellite information which facilitated Saddam’s building highways out of Iranian corpses and the mass electrocution of thousands of Iranian child-soldiers (the children were given gaudy plastic keys and were told that they were to unlock the gates of heaven. Ironically, the keys were manufactured in Israel.) Kissinger gleefully hoped that the two sides would wipe each other out.

Recall also that in 1953 democratically elected Iranian Prime Minister Mohammed Mossedeq was removed in a US/British inspired coup d’etat and was replaced with Shah Pahlavi, who could maintain power only through use of his American trained and despised secret police (Savak). The Americans and British got their (well not their) oil, and the Iranian people got terror and torture and murder until they couldn’t and wouldn’t take it anymore, and then they got Ayatollah Khomeini, an ‘improvement’ which was doubtful at best.

So when Hillary Clinton threatened to obliterate Iran if Israel were to more or less wink, well that work began quite a long time ago (and even now the US has Special Forces inside Iran to commit mayhem and assassination). Meanwhile the execrable mainstream media dutifully bleats about what a menace Iran is, while and misunderstood (but not misunderestimated) gentle Israel just wants to get along with everyone.

Too many Americans, including politicians, willfully ignorant of their own meddlesome and bloody history with regard to other nations, unaware or uncaring of America’s fundamental immorality in dealing abroad, still absorb and parrot whatever party line is spewed out from the foul framers of public opinion such as Fox or CNN or the Washington Post. They either don’t know, or they think that dropping bombs and spreading terror, horror, and despair is their God given right and duty.

And they still have the mind-numbing temerity to ask ‘Why do they hate us?’

That’s why. In the face of an American-induced crumbling world economy, two hopeless wars, and a Constitution in tatters after eight stolen years of the worst government in American history, perhaps it’s time to re-examine the insane and unsustainable notion of American Exceptionalism, to ratchet down the hothead hubris, and to practice diplomacy for a change.

Oh. And an apology would be nice, too. An AIPAC-sized one.
