They're boldly admitting it. They will shut down the government, which they hate anyway, if the Democrats don't let them cut funding for women's health-- through Planned Parenthood. In one of the more despicable acts, today, Speaker Boehner called for passage of the "Troop Funding Bill." That's what they're calling the bill that is loaded with anti-abortion, anti-EPA add-ons.
late's Dave Weigel noted that five minutes after the White House declared H.R. 1363 unacceptable, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) slammed President Obama for threatening to veto a bill to "ensure that our troops are paid." Minutes later, Rep. Tom Latham (R-IA) ripped Democrats for "girding to oppose a "troop-funding bill.'" Republican lawmakers quickly picked up the rallying cry. Reps. Mike Pence (R-IN) and Harold Rodgers (R-KY) called it "astonishing" and "inexplicable" that Obama would, as GOP shutdown architect Newt Gingrich put it, use the troops as "bargaining chips for budget negotiations."
This may satisfy the teabaggers and Becktards, but for most of America, it will be transparent, well as transparent as the enabling mainstream, corpstream media allows it to be. Unfortunately, even MSNBC's anchors, including Luke Russert, covering Boehner's smoke and mirrors exercise, exploiting and blackmailing the troops to get defunding of Planned Parenthood, failed to reveal that the "Troop Funding Bill" is a shameful label for the bill that the Republicans are using to sell their blackmail. Bottom line. The Republicans are using Frank Luntz-type framing to sell their blackmail as being about budget and caring for the troops. That's a lie and I doubt that Frank Luntz had his hand in this buffoonery.
The sad thing is, the teabaggers are enjoying this. Their brain dead hate for government allows them to discompassionately push their legislators to disrupt the lives of millions of family members of the 800,000 plus government employees who will lose their pay WHEN the government shuts down. You see, it's already too late. The budget had to be worked out on Tuesday to stop the shutdown.
Teabaggers should be forced to take their kids out of schools. Let them keep their property taxes and use them to educate their brats. Teabaggers should not be allowed to use public roads. They should not have access to help from the police or firefighters. They should not be able to use the justice system. They should be required to pay surcharges on oil and food-- that government money subsidizes.
Maybe Donald Trump will help them.
The thing is, teabaggers and their elected enablers are doing great damage to America-- in country and out of country. The rest of the world is watching and listening and what they see is contemptible. The US will pay for this in devastating losses of reputation and soft power.
