Among these is the "Agricultural Job Opportunities, Benefits and Security Act of 2007" (AgJOBS) bill. This bill basically allows illegal immigrants amnesty if they promise to be good from now on. Calling it the AgJOBs bill is a bit of treachery similar to calling the Patriot Act the “Patriot Act”. Feinstein assumes that Americans are not interested in agricultural jobs and the bill’s passing will go unnoticed.
The bill provides for border enforcement but, as we have seen in the past, this is just a smoke screen for the main purposed of the bill, as stated by Feinstein, which is to “bring the 12 million people now living illegally in the U.S. out of the shadows”. If you read the bill it has much of the language of the Amnesty bill including. passing a national security check, applying for a Z-visa that allows them to stay in the U.S. legally; paying taxes, paying a fine of $5000, returning to their home country for a "touch-back" for at least a day, and to submit their application.
As we have seen in the past, Congress will simply choose not to enforce or allocate money for the parts of the bill they don’t want. The AgJOBS bill is simply the Amnesty bill renamed minus the trigger word, “immigration”.
Whatever your feelings are on immigartion, you can't feel good when Congress and the Senate goes against the wishes of the people they work for.
