Why we have only one party running this country. When Clinton took office he said the democrats need to go in a new direction: He called it the "New Democrats". I call it the "Republicrats". Since the New Democrats took over, the party has lost in every presidential election, lost the house and senate.
Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman (D-Conn.) is called a New Democrat because he still supports President Bush's Illegal War in Iraq; Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. (D-Del.) proved he is a New Democrat when he helped gut consumer bankruptcy protections; Sen. Evan Bayh (D-Ind.) is a New Democrat because he votes for corporate-written, wage-destroying trade deals. And former senator John Breaux (D-La.), now a corporate lobbyist was a New Democrat and Dixie Crat after working to stop Congress from cracking down on the drug and health industry profiteers who backed his campaigns.
New Democratic lawmakers continues to vote for corrupt GOP economic policies, such as a bankruptcy bill written by the credit-card industry, an energy bill written by the oil industry, Free Trade Agreements that destroy jobs, Illegal aliens that depress wages and Bush tax cuts for the wealthy that take money from health-care programs, college tuition, veterans benefits, schools, medicare and medicade.
These New Democrats are very comfortable being in the minority, they can pick and choose to back right wing laws and then swing to the left if they get heat from their citizens back home. They play both ends against the middle and we are the suckers for backing them.
Thankfully, a movement is building, outside the New Democrats in control of the party, that will help the Democrats in spite of themselves. Organizations like MoveOn.org, OpEdNews.com, Impeachbush.org and thinkprogress.org.are helping the working men and women of American to join together to stop the one party from making America a Corpocracy and Fascists State.
We have an obligation this fall to only back Democrats not Republicrats. In 2008 we have to demand that only a Real Democrat will be acceptable to run for the office of President. If we do not we are inviting the destruction of our Democracy and the economic future of our children.
