IT CAN HAPPEN HERE
He's just come back from Afghanistan with Liberal leader Dion.
Obviously Mr. Asper does. and the CBC and the CTV cannot even agree as to the details of the Dion remarks.
No one, of course, listens to me; I just quote the international law that the Bushistas totally care to ignore and apply it to the Canadian situation.
Since the 2001 Authorization for Military Force put out after the UN told the US Bush Adminstiration (can you say 2000 junta?) to cool their jets. I've put my cards on the table about what I think about ignoring international law and Canada being the handmaiden to the US Decider in Chief's war "racket." I think I hold the rather "Canadian view" that human rights matter.
The US is in a run up to starting another war; it’s worked for them in the past to stave off economic collapse. This is not a good plan for Canada, some rather desperate measures are called for that do not include use of military force in the Middle East.
This time - as opposed to 2001 - the damage is far, far greate r with the enormous cost of Iraq and Afghanistan (and then of course there is the “small” matter of continuing to butress Israel and the resulting ME arms race) ..
The US “bookends” policy of support (Pakistan on one end, Israel on the other) and the Cheney intent to balkanize the ME has been ongoing for seven years to the point the entire world market structure in in TOTAL collapse. and I don’t mean just the financial institutions either.
It cannot be covered up for too much longer, as even the MSM is now acknowledging that economically it looks like only the very top bracket in the free market system are going to escape with the shirts on their backs. (The financial press is not looking for the root causes so much, but seeing the symptomology rather well).
“I believe the Liberals have to be very careful about seeking Ignatieff’s advice on international issues. He does have a great deal of knowledge and he can probably blow people away with that but on reading several of his writings it appears that his judgement is suspect.”
The above remark is highly correct - HIS judgment is suspect, very. I’ve watch him since he walked in and took a riding that Elmer Fudd could have won. The guy thinks in seconds (what’s good for HIM) and doesn’t think long term and I feel/think/believe he is incapable of it. To put it bluntly, the guy’s GONE AMERICAN (and I should know). He’s just another guy who doesn’t disagree with the underlying premise (militarization and annexation of Canada for the US) empire, only with the TACTICS.
Why what happens in Canada matters
This is EXTREMELY dangerous. The US has thrown every single adherance to Geneva and international law away, something to be debated for another day as the White House and Cheney's office continue their ever obnoxious and lethal misinterpretation of the US Supreme law of the land. Obvious symptoms: Jose Padillo, Omar Khadr. While the US Bush Adminstration is going to have its day some day at the ICC some day- an institution which I hope at least a few on this webblog take with utter seriousness and respect - there is no reason for Canada to get itself embroiled in further Bush international legal violations.
The US' KING George, representative in the kleig lights, Imperial President, and his primary adviser, Dirty Dick Cheney, are cherry picking intel info once again as they did before the war in Iraq; this time it’s with PAKISTAN (they’re still fighting about the Iran NIE) ..
CIA/intelligence are claiming they “know” who killed the Pakistani PM: They’re claiming AlQueda. Strange, this was before the review of evidence. We saw this with 9-11. Even today, the FBI said there is “no evidence” linking Osama bin Ladin to 9-11; yet, without reviewing anything, the CIA ‘knows’ something.
Last time the intelligence community said something, the President ignored them: He didn’t like the Iran NIE.
Hope he enjoys picking while he can. Convicted war criminals don’t get much of a choice on prison garb, cell size, visitor frequency nor which Canucks they can hang out with.
