Kill those Sinners for Jesus

Fans of the fundamentalist "Left Behind" doomsday novels have to wait but a bit longer to see bloody gore. Soon they will be able to get practice killing liberals, atheists and non-fundamentalists in a graphically violent video game to be rated Teen or Mature. The violence in the "Christian" video game will be based on that in Grand Theft Auto, a game, ironically enough, that is often rightfully decried by religious right groups for being far too violent. According to the "Left Behind" website:

"Wage a war of apocalyptic proportions in LEFT BEHIND: Eternal Forces - a real-time strategy game based upon the best-selling LEFT BEHIND book series created by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins. Join the ultimate fight of Good against Evil, commanding Tribulation Forces or the Global Community Peacekeepers . . . "

"Lead the Tribulation Force from the book series, including Rayford, Chloe, Buck and Bruce against Nicolae Carpathia - the AntiChrist." (Note the good Anglo names against one of those foreigners whose names end in vowels.)

"Conduct physical & spiritual warfare: using the power of prayer to strengthen your troops in combat and wield modern military weaponry throughout the game world." (Forget beating those swords into plowshares and blessed are the peacemakers.)

"Command your forces through intense battles across a breathtaking, authentic depiction of New York City." (Both Christian and Moslem fundamentalists agree NYC is sin city.)

"Control more than 30 units types - from Prayer Warrior and Hellraiser to Spies, Special Forces and Battle Tanks!" (How appropriate a name it is that incorporates hell.)

"Enjoy a robust single player experience across dozens of New York City maps in Story Mode - fighting in China Town , SoHo , Uptown and more!" (Then after you slaughter the Orientals and bohemian artists, go wild killing in both the west and east villages before moving out to Queens to slay all those brown-skinned immigrants.)

"Play multiplayer games as Tribulation Force or the AntiChrist's Global Community Peacekeepers with up to eight players via LAN or over the internet!" (Whosoever shall gather in my name to kill, shall conquer the world.)

Don't dismiss those folks as fringe nuts. The "Left Behind" novels have so far sold tens of millions of copies and have been translated into 30 languages. Troy Lyndon, the CEO of Left Behind Games, believes the explicitly graphic violent images will grab religious right audiences that went for the blood and gore in "The Passion of the Christ." He's right as was Mel Gibson. What good religious right Christian would pay to see Jesus give the sermon on the mount when they could watch him being whipped to a bloody pulp?

While some might be outraged by a violent video game that advocates mass killing in the name of Jesus, I believe the game does not go far enough. The game needs to be even more realistic as well as more educational. The kiddies need to be learning something while they are blowing off liberals' heads with their official Jesus M-16 rifle. Let's add some authenticity to the game.

So let's burn some witches and heretics. Torture scientists who dare discover anything contrary to the church's teachings. Conquer foreign lands, enslave their people and take their riches, all in the name of God and Jesus.

But let's be fair and mention the Moslem version of "kill those sinners." Their version is called the Mahdi, Dajjal and Isa. According to Islamic end-times prophecy, people will become increasingly evil and materialistic. The true believers will be persecuted and threatened with extermination. Then the Mahdi - the guided one - will stand up for Muslims against the evil doers. In response, the Dajjal, an evil one-eyed anti-God character, will wage all out on war on Muslims and just when things like they can't get any worse, the prophet Isa will return and defeat the evil doers in one final battle of good against evil. Oh, you might know Isa better by his western name: Jesus.

That's right. Moslem fanatical fundamentalists are waging war in part because they believe that they are doing it for Jesus. How ironic it is that both the "Left Behind" and Moslem fanatical fundamentalists both believe that Jesus is not the prince of peace but the armed avenger of Armageddon. And look at all the hell on earth that their arrogant beliefs and accompanying violent actions have caused.
