Dear Mr. O'Reilly:
Media Matters has responded to my piece asking for a debate between them and you on your show or wherever. Not to be rude but I'm still waiting to hear from you. A spokesperson from Media Matters affirmed that they would consider an appearance on your show. So at this point, the ball is in your court.
I'm not sure what that means but suspect that the rankings for news stories at Google is based upon the number of readers. I'm new at all this and still learning. Hell, who am I trying to fool, I'm just a country boy in a pair of cut-off shorts banging away at the computer and not some media scribe with a big staff in Washington or New York. I'm so ignorant that I have to ask questions to find anything out at all.
So while I'm waiting to hear back from you about when Media Matters can come on your show, I'm going to ask around about what people think about Media Matters and you getting together to hash-out your riff. I figure far more knowledgeable people at places like Huffingtonpost, Alternet and Common Cause can answer whether or not they think Fox News should be fair and balanced in allowing time to people who feel that they have been unfairly accused. Then again I reckon my fellow bloggers might want to have some input in whether the mainstream media should be more balanced. Even journalists might want to touch upon professional standards and ethics. Who knows what people will have to say about the Media Matters-Bill O'Reilly affair? Some people might even see it as a David versus corporate Goliath. Anyway, we'll hopefully find out, Mr. O'Reilly, how much the left thinks of fair and balanced coverage on mainstream media. We'll see if the liberal/progressive movement can stand up for one of its own like Media Matters. Hopefully, you will hear their opinions as much as me.
Anyway, I'll let you get back to work because as you can see I'm going to have a busy, busy day ahead of me. I'll be sure to let you know what I hear and you do the same.
Godspeace.
Richard Mathis
