If he keeps on being Barack Obama.
If he continues to tell it the way he sees it.
If he continues to instill in us the sense that We The People are once again a part of the political process, and it is Us who come before the mega corporations and their billions of dollars worth of influence.
If he remain accessible to the press and the public.
If he doesn't appear to be secretive as Hillary does.
If he doesn't let the right wing smear machine sidetrack his campaign the way John Kerry did, and immediately counters every smear.
If Hillary's campaign doesn't have a stealth left wing mud-slinging machine as it's been rumored to have (by the righties who are running it).
If his campaign can keep one step ahead of the radical right and at least tries to anticipate their moves.
If (please) Ralph Nader stays home.
If "24" keeps electing black presidents.
If the majority of the country becomes color blind.
If some crazed racist doesn't shoot him. My greatest fear is that during one of his appearances I will hear a dreaded, horrific shot ring out.
If he doesn't make any more mistakes like this, the only discordant note in an otherwise positive, optimistic speech, by saying he is not attuned to the ways of Washington. He knows exactly how Washington works and proved it by reeling off a litany of counter D.C. ideas.
If he keeps invoking the name of Abraham Lincoln, America's most revered president, and continues to make him the metaphor for his campaign.
Obama's team has already shown brilliance by choosing the site of Abraham Lincoln's famous a nation devided cannot stand speech, the steps of the Old State Capitol in Springfield, Illinois, a place that Chris Matthews noted Lincoln would recognize if he were to visit today, because it hasn't changed.
Finally with Lincoln in mind, for the most skeptical and cynical of you -- and you know who you are -- if Obama doesn't choose a running mate named Johnson; never goes to the theatre; doesn't hire a stenographer named Kennedy; doesn't ride in a Lincoln; or doesn't get elected in the year 2060 he'll be fine, and so will we.
