Watching the Move to the "Middle"

I sure hope everyone in Washington and elsewhere in this country is happy as everyone moves to the "middle", wherever that is. I guess that's not too far right, and not too far left. It's that 'Just Right" area that Kos from the "Daily Kos" can call home. His book "Wait before you move to Canada" or something that sounds like that is just about all you'll read about if you go to the site. Apparently this election is such a good thing, Kos is claiming he was right in telling everyone not to move.

Michael Moore seems to be high on life, judging from his last article I read, right here at OpEdNews. He's telling the Republicans that we are going to stop the Global Warming, clean up the air, get our soldiers back from Iraq and reverse all the damage done to the Constitution. That sure makes me sleep better. I'm sure that Pelosi and Reid are going to right all the wrongs and that now the President sees the error of his ways, everything will be just nifty again.

I am happy about one thing. I think I nipped that "caliphate" thing in the bud. The NeoCons were going to use it as a new "Domino" theory and I believe that my article on the meaning of the word "caliphate" stopped them in their tracks. That article was the most reprinted article that I ever wrote. I wrote that article because I didn't know what the word meant, and may have ended up changing policy in the White House. (I'm sure that they will come up with something else). Another article I wrote; the one about the Democrats staying in power, I mentioned that we should call for Iran and Syria to help us maintain the security if Iraq's borders. It's no secret that Iran hates Al-Queda as much as we do, Tony Blair happened to say the same thing two hours after I did and next thing you know, my article is being reprinted on news sites.

Somebody, well not just one person, told me that I had better think about moving out of this country before I don't have a chance to get out. These are people that really believe that our leaders are really up to no good. I don't know about leaving. I've always said that I'm sick and tired of immigrants coming here and bitching about our country, when they were too scared to change what was happening in their country. I always said that if all those Cubans would have stayed in Cuba instead of coming here, that maybe Castro would not be celebrating his 50th year in power. I'm not about to leave this country; I have too much invested in it. I served 21 years in the military, added two people to its population rolls, and have put too much work into trying to change it for the better. I'm too damn old to start something new somewhere else.

So here we are, all moving to the middle together, isn't that quaint? We get to stay home and watch shows like Jericho and The Unit on TV that give us that nice fuzzy warm feeling. Like the episode of the unit the week before last when a former unit members wife, kills some religious dude in cold blood and they showed us how those "cool" government operatives covered it up after being accomplices to the murder. Good family fare. All moving to the "middle" together.

So here in South Carolina a cop hit another car while trying to catch a "speeder" that wouldn't stop. In the process of chasing him, he ran into an innocent guy driving his car and hit him. The guy flew out of his car and died in impact. They said he wasn't wearing his seatbelt. See how Important it is to wear your seatbelt? Of course no charges were filed against the officer who was trying to catch the "speeder" that wouldn't stop. I just threw that in because it bothered me.

So America's Mayor is going to run for President. Rudy Guiliani. They call him a liberal Republican. I know he cleaned up the streets of New York City pretty well. The only thing I didn't like about 'Ol Rudy, was the way he smiled every time he made an appearance after 9/11. I swear to God that he acted more like he was on some kind of variety show than mourning the death of 3,000 people that died in that disaster. It reminded me of when I had to go to a fellow recruiter's funeral after he wrecked his car on Long Island working 15 hour days trying to make his enlistment quota. I remember our Company Commander and our Operations Sergeant coming into the funeral parlor where we had him in state, and they started glad handing everyone and smiling these big broad smiles like they were at a Christmas Party instead of a funeral for a young dad that they had literally "worked to death". Perhaps I should just let that one go too, but these are things I carry that I would like to let go, but I can't. This is one reason I still have nightmares and wake up sweating. Think I'm going to leave this country after all of that?

So in the meantime, while everyone is moving to the middle, I'm going to stay here just a tad to the left. It's not that I don't trust the Democrats, or the administration, I don't trust many human beings at all, especially the political ones. Do you know why I write about politics? It's because it's so easy to write about the fantastic things that people do and say to get a hold of power. It's like a drug. People will say and do anything to get in power. Power means money, respect, sex and well...power. When I see the Democrats refuse to take Defense Contractor's money maybe I'll move to the middle. When I see Democrats refuse money from the American Medical Association, from the timber companies, from the oil companies, from the banking and financial companies and all of the other companies and associations they take from, then maybe, just maybe, I'll move to the middle too. If Tom Hayden and Jane Fonda and Father Berringen can all move to the middle, then why can't I? Maybe I haven't been offered enough power, or money. Maybe I was taught to believe in principles instead of status and power. You all go ahead and walk to the middle, I'll stay here and keep the fires burning here at the left. Tell me how you like it there, and when you come back, I won't hold it against you or say that I told you so.
