Alan started growing up on a small farm in Michigan, but ended up getting distracted by music and some of the other wonders of the world, women included and one in particular, and hasn't finished yet. He went to college for almost four years, but got distracted by the music again so his education is unfinished too. He takes some comfort in man being created in the image of the Great Question Mark in the Sky, because It ain't done yet either. He's been hearing voices for a long time, but has found that as long as you edit what they sing and say into rhyme and reason, people think you're creative instead of crazy. That process has resulted in over 50 songs worth keeping, and a few genuine beauties. In the meantime he has also done a pretty typical assortment of the stuff songwriters and players do when their addiction isn't "self-supporting" (even when it is, it's only because of their supporters), including teaching guitar, surveying, interior carpentry, silver & goldsmithing, media & legal research, writing and editing.
