Ariella Brunwasser is a graduate of Brandeis University, where she studied English and American Literature. She lived in Jerusalem for three years, two of which she spent working as a grant writer in a non-profit development consulting firm. She returned to Chicago after a 12-month stint in Bucharest, Romania as a Jewish Service Corps Volunteer through the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee.

My time in Bucharest, as well as my travels to Jewish communities in Macedonia, Bulgaria, and Turkey, allowed me to encounter parts of the Jewish people to which I had never been exposed or even thought about. I felt like I was discovering long-lost family, and in them I was discovering myself.
