Supporters of instant runoff voting are touting the method as a way to eliminate election recounts, according to a recent op-ed in a Minnesota paper. The argument is that if the state used IRV, the Franken/Coleman contest would not need a recount. Sorry, but getting rid of a key component of election transparency isn't a good idea. Further, the claim that IRV "totally eliminates the need for a recount" is flat out false

SHARE Friday, October 10, 2008 Ohio-duh steals Flori-duh's Butterfly Ballot Design
Ohio may go down in history this November when 12 counties use a butterfly ballot. The design is hauntingly similar to the one that made Florida notorious in November 2000. The problem - the design is a modern day butterfly ballot, splitting the presidential contest over two columns on their paper ballots for this November's election.
SHARE Tuesday, October 7, 2008 Florida's No Match-No Vote Law Violates Equal Protection
Florida's last minute and selective enforcement of Florida's "No Match No Vote" law violates the Equal Protection clause of the 14th amendment. The law is only being applied to a certain class of voters - the newest voters - only those registering after Sept 8. The 10.7 million voters who registered before September 8 will not be held to the same standards that have already affected 7000 new registrants...

The DC non profit "Women's Voices Women Vote" is at it again confusing voters & burying election officials in unneccesary paperwork. WVWV did this to 26 states in the 2008 and in 2007 - pumping out registration forms seemingly willie nillie to 6 & 14 yr olds, deceased persons, registered voters, even to Rosemary Rodriguez. One way to disenfranchise voters is to "gum up" the system that enfranchises them.
