Make Marriage Truly Sacrosanct

David Diderot
Message David Diderot

Much to the disgust of this writer, progressives and other subversives on the fringe of society, same-sex marriage will now be illegal in California, Arizona, and Florida.  Apparently the California debacle was successful because of a coalition of Catholics and Mormons, while evangelical zealots and other crazed homophobes carried the day in Arizona and Florida.

If this religious mandate is to impose itself on civil law, then we should not be hypocritical in its application.  If marriage is to be sacrosanct and apply only to a man and woman, then the full force of Biblical injunction should be observed.

As the Good Book instructs, "what therefore God hath joined together, let no man put asunder."  Divorce should be denied for any reason.  Relationships that prove incompatible over time or involve emotional and/or physical abuse or irreconcilable differences must simply be dealt with.  The parties involved can always seek marriage counseling and solace from their ministers, priests or whomever.   Such counseling should include a stern reminder to wives about their subservience to husbands.  "Wives, submit yourselves unto your husbands, as unto the Lord."

What about adultery?  If marriage is to be sacrosanct, it is "until death do us part" regardless of cause.  However, there is a Biblical solution to the adultery conundrum.  Simply have public stonings of the proven offender, and the surviving widow or widower will be free to marry again.

A few nay sayers might point out Jesus said, "Judge not lest ye be judged," but what Jesus said means nothing.  Christians have been judging, condemning and punishing for almost two millennia.
