Secretary of State John Kerry was at the State Department yesterday, if not exactly beating the drum for a U.S. attack on Syria (over an alleged poison gas attack by the Bashar Assad government) he was certainly laying the groundwork with these comments. "Make no mistake. President Obama believes there must be accountability for those who would use the world's most heinous weapons against the world's most vulnerable people. Nothing today is more serious and nothing is receiving more serious scrutiny".
The only problem is the U.S. government isn't interested in "serious scrutiny" of who precipitated the alleged gas attacks because even while there are U.N. inspectors on the ground in Damascus, Syria and in the area of the alleged attacks investigating and conducting tests (which could take weeks) spokesmen for the U.S. are telling everyone "It's too late to be reliable", we know it's the Assad regime behind these attacks (before any confirmation has been determined by the inspectors).
As to "allegations" in this latest attack, there is nothing more unreliable than "suspect sources" providing the information of who were the perpetrators i.e. telling a tale, having an axe to grind, getting paid to give an answer his benefactors want to hear and accusing the "other side" of committing the atrocity (yet with no evidence in hand).
This has been the all too familiar way the corporate media reports what is happening in Syria, "disclosures" often made by unconfirmed and unreliable sources yet taken as fact and reported as such. But much of this "factual" information reported by the media most probably came from non Syrian rebel insurgents now proliferating in the country many of which came in to stoke the flames of the insurgency against Assad and promote chaos, instability and civil war and were not connected with the original indigenous Syrian rebels that began the initial opposition against Assad almost 2 - years ago.
We saw this corporate media type reporting of "fact" coming from unreliable and unconfirmed sources regarding Iraq in 2002 not only the phony allegations coming from Iraqi expatriate Ahmed Chalaby, but also the trumped up fabrications of "yellow cake" in the hands of Saddam Hussein as well as sites in the country containing WMD given to them by then Vice President Cheney. Then of course Secretary of State Colin Powell's charade of "confirmed" WMD sites presented at the U.N. in February 2003, all used as pretext for Bush pre-emptively invading Iraq in March 2003.
But weeks before the invasion U.N. inspectors were in Iraq, went to the "alleged" sites of suspected WMD and found nothing with the then head of the inspection team Hans Blix confirming his findings to the world.
No matter, the U.S. wasn't interested. The Bush gang had been preparing to attack Iraq and nothing including no findings of WMD by U.N. inspectors was about to stop them.
Now in Syria, with Assad demonized as the perpetrator unleashing chemical weapons before confirmation has been determined by independent U.N. inspectors, the Obama mob is ready and itching to attack Syrian government forces and installations with cruise missiles and air strikes.
