A psyop is a brain tease related to government intelligence.
In this current spirit of disclosure, in a world where diplomats and government officials send cables that may somehow be intercepted, and copied, there are a variety of other ways to communicate on the internet, other than those used by regular people. Just what is a psyop.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychological_Operations_(United_States ), and related steganography http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steganography , (not to be confused with a stenographer or a stegosaurus). Most regular people have never seen examples of these and if they do, simply discarded them as gibberish. But these can be a recognized way for intel agents and operators to communicate with others - it's spy speak. This is not a course in instant spy school, that's why the wikipedia links are here - wiki is always understandably generic. The raison for this instruction is so if and when you run across something odd on the web, that yellow warning light will come on in your head.
Psyop was originally related exclusively to propaganda but now has a broader use, while steganography comprises techniques "of hiding information in plain sight within a larger message or messaging context. It is hard to detect because the secret message is [often] a very small component of the larger amount."
This may be a place where intelligence officers and agents communicate with each other and their minions, as well as sending birthday greetings and menial messages to their mate to take out the garbage.
There's a wide variety of psyop-type communication possibilities - in as many ways as creative government people can design them. It's been only two years since I first came across a particular site. "That's a psyop," a former CIA agent told me. He said I should stay away from them, but why, it's just another way of communicating. I had seen such things before - several years ago, and before that, there were substitution codes, but intel is not my field.
I'm too busy - I write articles on current topics in Science and in the Arts, like the Metropolitan Opera's recent performance of "Don Carlo," click here , and an ongoing art exhibit at London's Tate Modern showing the work of China's greatest living artist click here ). Currently, most of my writing time is spent as the spokesperson for the inventor, Peter Sumaruck; I am a follower of New Energy technology.
That was what brought me to this particular psyop, http://en.nicoga.in/nicoga/?key=Peter%20Sumaruck because it showed up two years ago when I googled Pete's name. It is a strange site; I don't know of another like it on the internet. There is a place for an image in the center but fewer images have been included lately [originally they put up a picture of Pete's Classic '64 Dodge truck]. I had nothing to do with posting on the Nicoga site; the author is anonymous. How does it look/you better pull it up.
Lines of text move across the page at a fast clip, some lines moving faster than others, thus impossible to copy, sometimes difficult to follow. The text is updated at various times, seemingly at random as no one we know inserts the content.
Some people have suggested that the text is from random news stories, but no, I'm sure it's intentional; I have my reasons. You can tell which ones were created by a human and which ones were not. Today the Sumaruck one contains some older text but with words changed around - I'm trying to take notes - coupled with newer items like my article on Pete and Tae Kwan Do from Nov. 5, last month, as well as one from just a couple days ago - psyops says "Military chooses green energy - Lights talk." That text came from the ZeroAmpTech.com site, with a nice picture of the Secretary of the Navy (on the ZAT site, not on Nicoga).
Thank you very much to the anonymous author, but not all text is Zeroamptech on this moving menagerie "several mentions on solar energy, and some is in code, to include "#39;s" which pops up in all the articles on nicoga, almost like a swear word, or a point of emphasis.
If you go to this site, you can insert other names in the top/searth box and see what you get - put in your own name, for fun. Or do as I did today, go to "Andrei Sakharov" where you will see an image of a wonderful sculpture of this great man - just the head and hands.
The text speaks of Sakharov winning the Nobel Prize for Peace, and there is new text since last I looked. Now mentioning other Nobel Peace winners: comparing China's Lui Xiaobo's inability to receive his prize to Russia's Sakharov and Burma's Aung San Suu Kyi. We know these things, but the author seems to have a deep understanding of Russia, note the random word of "Glasnos." They say, "Julian Assange is no hero but Khodorkowshy and Holbrooke may..." this written by someone with an opinion - it's a message piece. There's also the ubiquitous "#39;s," damn.
One curiosity - the text says, "heads up Dec. 23, 2010." That was yesterday; did something human rights-wise happen yesterday. I'll check my fortune cookie, or "The New York Times." ...But probably a message to one other person, whomever.
"Oh my God," It's changed today (now Dec. 26, 2010)" http://en.nicoga.in/nicoga/?key=andrei%20sakharov Sorry to report, the picture of the sculpture is gone - you missed it, and the text has changed. The phrase saying "Nazi China strategy," is still there but most of the above has disappeared - that's the thing, you can't make a copy of moving text. A new entry says, "Enquiry on his death, Morrison World News."
As you try to figure it out, notice that reporting on some individuals is intentional, while other text is random. Put the name "Larry Bailey" in the Nicoga search. This is very amusing. There's mention of Pete Sumaruck and Tai Kwon Do; then some sports figures (LB - is a common name); also "Republican Party of Garland County," and then "RIP."
You don't think this is a psyop - that's good, just keep thinking that.
One caveat before the next step - if someone does not want me to say something, or tell something, all they need to do is ask me not to. I'm good at keeping a secret, but it's only polite to expect to be asked.
Something more about spy-messaging - this is truly important for everyone who posts or comments on a website, and anyone who posts videos; here is something that truly surprised me. Our government has the ability to preempt content - they can change your message - with voice, music and design. If you customarily edit, you may have the U.S. Government as your partner.
This past October, we were editing some film and audio footage to construct a video. The content didn't have anything to do with Pete Sumaruck's new energy technology. But he was a character in the film where the topic was personal only having to do with people he personally knew. Seven minutes into the video, the film showed him moving around inside his home. He has a wall of honor where there is a multitude of small pictures of people he knows or represent something that interests him. He arranged it so he was being filmed with his head next to a particular photo. It was intended to be humorous, not a message of any kind.
Our editor put the content into a temporary video and emailed it to me for proofing. I received it and began to play it. Seven minutes in, there was Pete in front of the photo on the wall. The sound had been removed (not by request) and in place was a loud rendition of some country western song. The changes were made after the content left our editor and before I clicked on the link.
Pete told me, "Don't use that video." I replied, "But it was just a joke, you jumping around - it was supposed to be funny."
Pete said, "Are you crazy, these people are killers." I shake my head in incredulity.
Also, you as a viewer would not have been able to identify that photograph but the government could - that's how carefully they scrutinize.
Can't hear - they turned the volume down so low, no one would be able to make out the next very important conversation on the video (we heard it several times earlier and it was "plenty LOUD.") There was something about that content, they didn't want the public to hear.
The audio portion was an argument - Pete wanted it to be heard.
I don't know how they did it but I am sure they were gleeful that they could, and so they did.
You might ask - why blame the government. Because Pete has experienced so much physical harassment over his invention - I won't even go into it. But through the "chatter" (comments heard over internet connections), a sanction was put on Pete's life, a sanction for his removal. We understand the assignment was accepted, then later rescinded.
We got the message. This was a threat. If the government doesn't like something, they have the ability to get rid of it in any way they want. They have the technology for extrapolation and insertion. This is censorship of the first order, censorship of your movies, your music - they can step right in and take it. What about freedom of speech, literally; if you weren't there to hear a particular speech, how can anyone be sure what was actually said. A film producer and director view their own movie; do they fully recognize it. You have to wonder.
We can remind everyone of the promises of free speech, but the reality is that what you get may not be the way you had expected it to be. Am I being too mild for you; need I hit you over the head.
Volume 2 of "Chatter" will follow soon with a psyop of a different sort
