Intern=Free labour

Raechel Gwyn

It just occurred to me (I can be slow), this bourgeoning meaning of "intern." As I look for a paying job, people who need to hire also need to shield the fact that they either can't or don't want to provide a wage. I just turned down a possible job because I wouldn't accept a free t-shirt.

Then I, again, read a rather involved description for a particular internship, out of curiosity. It wasn't an internship, really. My gut...or my math. I suppose "internship" is the new "non-profit"--for whom?
