Just wanted to see if many people have heard of Neve Shalom before?
This village was setup decades ago, and has two names... Neve Shalom, and also Wahat al-Salam... translated as "Oasis of Peace"... in both Hebrew and Arabic.
The village is a cooperative village of Jews and Palestinian Arabs of Israeli citizenship, and is equal distance from Jerusalem and Tel Aviv-Jaff.
I find it inspiring and encouraging that even in this day and age, a village thrives in this difficult part of the world, with both sides of the fence living in peace. How wonderful!
This is just a short entry, but I suppose I just wanted to throw a little hope up in the air!
How many of us hear about the problems and violence in this region? - Its all over the news... but why is this amazing village not publicized by the media to the same extent??? - Or does fear and war sell better than peace maybe?
Here is some info on the BBC radi4 website, along with a download link for the program (I think the bit about Neve Shalom starts after 25mins40 seconds, or something) http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/factual/midweek_20080521.shtm l
