The exuberance for Barack Obama reminds me of another time for which one of Yogi Berra’s “ yogism “ is apt, “ It’s deja vue all over again “. Remember back in 1980 when another popular, charismatic, inspirational, superb orator, grade B actor, inexperienced on the national stage as well as world affairs ran for president ?
Ronald Reagan won the nomination and then the election. But look at what happened ! After 8 years, the budget deficit increased from $75 billion to $400 billion and America started down the road to the present state of affairs ( quite dismal ).
With Barack Obama, we have nearly the same. Quite charismatic and inspirational, but inexperienced at the national level ( only a few years in the Senate ) and no experience in world affairs. In these times of great turmoil, with much trouble at home and lots of consternation at America, the country needs someone who can lead with knowledge and experience, both at home and abroad.
We know that any democratic nominee will bring the Iraq war to a close. Thus more importantly now is the economy & health care. Obama is rather conservative on these matters. Hopes & dreams will not solve the problems. We need a “ nuts & bolts “ person to “ get ‘er done ! “.
The economy was best during the Clinton years and even though Hillary was only a first lady, she still was in the midst of things. With Bill by her side now, we have someone who has “ been there, done that “.
In addition, her health care plan has been reviewed by many professionals and judged to be superior.
This is no time for a trainee !
