Pepe Escobar Picks Obama's War Speech Apart

What is really going on in Washington with Obama's troop escalation is another Napoleonic moment for the Pentagon, which more or less has President "deer-in-the-headlights" Obama hog-tied into doing its bidding. What the Pentagon is really pursuing is its full-spectrum dominance strategy in Asia, which, to put it into more colloquial terms, could be called playing King of the Hill, or Alpha Male over Asia, a variation of the historical geopolitical "Great Game" that Imperial Russia and Great Britain played back in the 19th Century, utlizing, even back then, Afghanistan as a major pawn in their strategies.

Now the Pentagon wants to secure and expand its shaky foothold in Asia, at incredible cost in terms of human blood and treasure, for the sake of energy resources and strategic chess-moves against Russia, China, Iran and whoever else gets nominated as l'ennemi du jour.

Does America need to be playing this ultra-nationalistic war game?

About as much as France needed to be bankrolling Napoleon attempting to storm Moscow in the Winter, or Germany underwriting Hitler attempting to do the same thing over a century later. This way lies ruin.

And this is also what happens when a country gives over the control of its foreign policy to the military and the militarists. It is not unlike giving over control of your house and frontyard to a pack of Doberman Pinschers. Soon half your neighboorhood may have been attacked and your children eaten while the dogs spin around in circles, crazed by blood.
