The Sky Is Falling!!! ...Still...
A recent CNN story noted in typical alarmist fashion how Russian Researchers are 'abandoning' their 'North Pole' research station due to 'Global Warming'. http://www.cnn.com/2008/TECH/science/07/14/polar.station.ap/index.html?eref=ib_topstories As usual, however, there are quite a few holes in their story! First, the location of the station, the area between Novaya Zemlya and Franz Josef land is NOT 'The North Pole' as this article mistakenly tries to portray (look at a map, for cryin' out loud!). It IS in the Arctic ocean, where the ebb and flow of ice varies from year to year. But we rarely see stories that are contrary to the 'Chicken Little' slant that the Earth is melting. It seems that the only reports we get are those where the ice breaks up early (but within normal time frames!). But when occurrences such as a historic BUILDUP of Antarctic ice and snow pack occurs, there is little or no reporting. Either that, or we see ridiculous articles like the one recent AP report http://www.us.com/weather/environment/2008-07-08-mt-shasta-growing-glaciers_N.htm when the present RECORD growth of glaciers on California's Mt. Shasta is reported, it is somehow twisted to be an EXAMPLE of INCREASED global warming. (I kid you not).
Typically, the only climatologists consulted for these articles (if at all) are only the 'true believers' in the 'Global Warming' (oops- I mean 'Climate Change'- that is the politically correct term now, isn't it?). Never are serious, sober and credentialed scientists who hold valid positions countering this eco-religious fervor EVER consulted. That is, unless they are the subject of an ambush or 'hit piece' to make them look like tools of the 'Evil Oil Industry'! Interestingly enough, the Energy Companies are now fully on board this 'Global Warming' gravy train, as they see enough 'Useful Idiots' (as Lenin Called them) to be taken advantage of in order to further their own agenda.
Opponents of the pseudo-religious 'Earth-First' creed are never allowed to rationally present evidence that counters the dogma of 'Global Warming', they are merely denounced as Heretics, and tools of (name your group of Bad Guys). Ask any REAL scientist and he or she will tell you: In any sound scientific endeavor, dissent and contrary data is not only accepted, but WELCOMED! As scientific knowledge is only furthered through acceptance of new data that either proves or disproves accepted theory. NOTHING is 'settled' or 'proven' as the wild-eyed doom-sayers promoting the Global Warming-Scare religion would like everyone to believe.
Oh, yes... 'Global Warming' is now 'Global Climate Change' in the vernacular dogmatic idiom of the movement. Since we live on a planet with a dynamic climate, this term is meaningless in the least, and misleading at best. It is akin to being alarmed about the rotational and orbital variations of the Earth! Climate has been dynamically changeable not only throughout the planet's history, but even through recorded and modern history. What would be truly scary is if there were NO 'Global Climate Change'!
As my esteemed Economics professor in college one told me, 'If you want to get at the root cause of a situation- Follow The Money!' Let's look at the major 'Solution' now being proposed for the 'Global Climate Change Problem'. Since industry and government are now fully on board as partners in the implementation of a 'Carbon Tax' on CO2 emissions (as has been implemented in Europe, Canada and elsewhere), it is very curious to many people as to how they will deal with and asses the most overwhelming 'polluter' of the environment with this noxious gas- the Earth itself! After all, plant life, volcanoes and sub-ocean floor methane deposits put forth more CO2 into the atmosphere every few years than has been emitted by all humanity since the industrial revolution!
Incidentally, how can a gas that is 28% of the composition of our atmosphere be classified as a 'pollutant' anyway? Oh yeah, any lie can be pulled off when it's about redistribution of wealth from Americans to large corporations and foreign governments! Why let the truth get in the way of a massive money-grabbing scam... As Mark Twain once said (I'm paraphrasing here): "The scariest words ever heard are 'I'm from the Government, and I'm here to help you!' "
