Domination systems produce high levels of stressfrom early family experiences to the artificial creation of economic scarcityinterferes with what makes people happiestsecurity, empathy, consciousness, creativity and love.

Domination system core characteristics:

o Top-down authoritarian rule in family and society

o Subordination of women to men, valuing of masculine traits

o Institutionallized violence, from wife and child beating to warfare and terrorism, with fear and force used to maintain domination

o Belief that rankings of domination are divinely or naturally ordained

Partnership system characteristics

o Favor egalitarian and democratic organization in family and society

o Value men and women equally

o Promote nonviolence in social lieve and relationships

o Believe that mutual respect and accountability are part of human nature

One of the most effective mechanisms for suppressing empathy and submitting to domination is the confluence of caring with coercion and pain. .

Our consciousness or lack thereof, is largely a function of our cultural contexts and particularly of cultural myths and theories about "human nature."
